dForce vs Dynamic Cloth

I've been using Dynamic Cloth simulations for years now and have a lot invested it.  Is dForce compatible with my Dynamic Cloth scenes or will upgrading tro 4.10  mess up all my Dynamic Cloth scenes?  Will dForce work with Dynamic clothing?  Will dForce work with Poser dynamic clothing?  I would love to have more dynamic clothing options, but I don't want to lose the years of work I put into the scenes I already have.

Optitex engine is still there and will still work.

In addition, I had good success with converting Optitex dynamic clothes to dForce. Those all worked well after a little parameter tweaking.

Here is the V4 Century Nightgown on a G3F model.

  • Which parameters did you tweek?  Also, have you tried using any of the Poser cloth room clothes with dForce?  They should be stitched properly.

For the night gown, it was necessary to adjust the following:

    - I exported the gown as .obj and then reimported the .obj as a prop which I applied the dynamic surface to

    - my character is much thinner and less busty than V4, I used some overall scale and x-, -z-scale to get it to fit the unposed figure a bit better.

    - In order to reduce the too large chest bulge form V4, I added a bit of shrinkage (~5%) to the materials of the top.

    - The narrower shape of my figure caused the gown to frequently to slide of a shouder or both (can be a neat effect, but wasn't what I was looking for). I painted a weighmap for dynamics to reduce the effect on the shoulders and the cleavage of the gown.

    - Overall I increased the friction a bit and reduced bend stiffness (I ended up using 0.25, I think) as well as density. I used to the surface adjuster for most of the adjustment with short drape cycles to see the effect.

    Thank you greatly.

I was just eyeballing the Optitex stuff I've purchased over the years, thinking "those have the right sort of meshes to not cause trouble with dForce. I wonder how much work it will be to convert them". Then I got the idea of searching the forum for recent posts mentioning Optitex and found yours.

    Good stuff.
