Which skin texture did you use in the render?

With the second attached picture, I'm assuming you mean a "light skinned black male". If so, I would suggest this thread. Genesis figures can use Michael 4 and Victoria 4 skins by default, you just need to adjust the UV map. I'm assuming you're attempting to directly alter the diffuse color. This can be useful but is limited.

You can lighten any skin texture by selecting the skin surface, opening the Layer Image Editor and applying a new white layer with opacity of 5 - 10 per cent.

You can copy paste this onto any material zones that use the same map.

Do the same thing, but with a black/dark layer, and change the blend mode to whatever the equivalent of Multiply is; I forget and I'm not on my computer at the moment to check. It'll be the one that isn't Alpha Channel Blend that still darkens the layer. That will let you darken it without losing too much contrast.

Conversely, if I was using a white layer to whiten, I'd use Additive blending mode unless there were parts of the texture already pure white or very close to it. That will retain more detail than a simple white overlay.

As ZamuelNow suggested, the diffuse color can be adjusted to make the skin appear darker. You just have to be subtle with the color you add. Also note that the Caucasian skin textures contain a lot of pink, so you want your diffuse colors to lean toward the greener side to keep the skin brown. In the picture I have attached, default Michael 5 is on the left with diffuse set to full white (RGB 255,255,255). The next 2 faces have a redder diffuse set, looking maybe a bit more Hispanic or Native American. The final 6 faces are examples of what you can get toward a more African color. The diffuse RBG values I used are written above each head. Good luck!

I was searching my hard drive for an older version of something similar from the previous forums but that's probably a much better example.

I didn't browse the forums in the olden days, only started recently after the change. I'm sure the idea has been posted many times. There was a product for V2 or V3 a few years ago that had one-click settings for about 100 different effects. Sure wish I still had that product in my runtime. I lost it in the great hard drive crash of 1936. :smirk:

I like this so much I'm going to take the V4 Tone files and hand edit all the extra's for fast use as I like.

Tip the V4 Hi Rez texture bundle comes with tone files that work on all Gen4 texture maps.

That's right... all of the Gen3 models come with 2 or 3 tones as well. Their was a product, though, "Skin Tones for V2" or something to that effect that had dozens of presets. I might work something up similar for Genesis and DS. The older file was for Poser. I might also include some "reverse" colors for use in the absorption channels that Luxus uses.

RDNA Skintones for V4, a set of freebie presets at sharecg.com. In fact, it works on any character, because all it does is plug values into the diffuse channel. It doesn't actually care about UVs.

I would also point out that you only want to use darker tones if you're planning to have the characters' palms or soles out of sight or covered.

That's the one! Glad to see it's still available. Going to RDNA to download ASAP.

Your so right, but as a quick fix this is easy to do.
