Complaint: Crappie World is about right! :bug:

Digestive system going haywire today, and all I had last night was a grilled chicken salad. Major sleep loss, but I couldn't take the day off as they're making a pre-production manufacturing run of the product I did the software for and I have to be here in case something goes Horribly Wrong(tm).

It's raining, and while we need the rain badly it makes getting around hard as the walking boot on my broken foot isn't anywhere near waterproof and will fill with water if I'm out in it for too long. :blank: That would mean a cab home and no shopping, which means reheating leftovers for dinner when I really wanted a burger made with cheese!

    Feh, just.. feh.

Non-complaint: the boss is out all next week, and I got a cool new project to work on that's kind of a low-priority thing so it should be a nice, quiet, but still productive week next week.

Total mega non-complaint happy thing: I'm off work May 17, 20, and 21 for MY 54th BIRTHDAY! :cheese: My fave dancer of all time is working the 17th so that's going to be my major party, the 20th (my birthday) I'm going to feast all day on wings and beer, and chat online with all my friends across the globe! The 21st I spend all day in bed, recovering (lolol)!

food reserve situation at defcon 3

    happy almost birthday :)

Looks like the rain has mostly cleared up, so I should be in good shape for going home. :)

Either going to shop tomorrow or go out for wings and beer, if I shop, wings and beer on Sunday! :cheese:

After my b-day, it's time to sit n save - need to get a Core i7 box with a 17in screen, Poserizing on my little screen is a pain in the beck (literally). :blank: I guess I could get a micro-PC/keyboard/monitor and just sell the keyboard and monitor when I move, that might end up working out better than a laptop if I want to stick with doing 3D work. Hmmph.

Everything needs to fit in backpack + rolling duffel bag. I've seen some killer shoebox PCs that have 32G of RAM, an NVidia card, and a quad core i7! Not cheap, but nor is a killer laptop. Hmmph again.

Gotta save up for a trip to New Orleans as well! Never been, wanna goooooooooooooo!

Sounds like you should subscribe to this magazine. :)
...mmm, the staple of the ole' Wisconsin Friday Night Fish Fry. Used to fish for those little buggers a lot. Fillet and coat them in flour, toss em' in an oiled hot cast iron skillet, fry up a mound of hand cut home fries, add some horseradish cocktail sauce, a bottle of beer, and you got some good eatin' there.

Unfortunately where I live, they are frightfully expensive since they are not native to the area and have to be "imported".

Almost wish barter was considered a more viable means of exchange as I cannot eat salmon, which is very plentiful and (thus more affordable here) and send it back in exchange for equivalent weight in crappies, lake perch and bluegills.

...may have to check out the fishmongers across the river later today.

...ever since I got mine up & running (with a 23" display) it's been wonderful. I can actually work in 4.5 and still have a nice big viewport to work in.

    Thank you for the comment.

It's getting to the point I'm working on 1 - 2 images a day now. Still "kicking the tyres" so to say of 4.5 as it has so much more to work with than previous versions. Getting a good handle on the UE lghts and UberSurface, and next I'm going to start messing around with the HSS. I just saw that the latest Beta (4.6) now has mesh shaping. Crikey with all the advanced surfacing, illumination (including Mesh lights), and SubD, this once little "3D toy" is beginning to grow up. Now if they can only get Hexagon stable, bring Bryce into the 64 bit world, and get together with the folks who produce Marvelous Designer (for generating cloth dynamics), they'd ' have a pretty kicking 3D suite.

Ah the Big Easy. Lived there for a year. Of course that was back in the 70s. Would like to head back for a visit myself sometime. Hear they added another streetcar line (I used to live a half block off St Charles up in the Garden District). Rode the St Charles line daily. As I was heavily into early jazz and ragtime when I was there, it almost felt as if I was living back in time. Life seemed simple, no rush, no rat race like up in NYC or Chicago.

Here's a screenshot I pulled from Google Earth of the Street I lived on. The building in the foreground used to be a local fire station and the one right behind it was the apartment house I lived in. On the corner is Fat Harry's tavern, a fave hangout of the Tulane crowd back then.

...and the second one is the old Streetcar that still rumbles along St Charles Ave from Canal Street to the Carrolton District.

Yeah - DS4.5 is turning into a powerhouse! Probably more than I'll ever need, too. I just want to do book covers, story illustration, and bizarre tentacle things! :vampire:

You lived in NoLa? Cool! I need to go not just to party but to research for a novel I'm planning about a paranormal investigator that lives there.. not going to be your usual vampire/werewolf/voodoo thing, though! (heh) Looks like the neighborhood you lived in was pretty cool!

Ne Orleans has cable cars?!?! EXCELLENT! :cheese: I'll have to check into tose! I rode the cable cars all over SF when I lived there.

Off to check out cable cars! :)

...duplicate post due to all this logout - login, copy, save, recall, paste rubbish.

Were I in N'Awlins, I'd be out the door and on my way to Pat O's for a couple Hurricanes after all this (something like twenty minutes of dealing with nothing but Magento and Cloudflare stupidity).

...been nearly a bloody year now and that #*@*%!! login bug still hasn't been taken care of. (and it still routes me to my bleedn' account page rather than back the the thread every tine I sign back in) >:-(

Ended up having to recall the text I wrote using the Lazarus plugin (which overwrites anything else in the form) and had to save this part separately since what I originally saved to the clipboard was truncated when I pasted it back in.

Why does this always have to be so bloody difficult? Fix the bleedin' forums login bug already, OK?

...and to top everything off , now that blasted Cloudflare "blank form" rubbish appears to have returned.

...an upgrade this has definitely been NOT!

    >:( >:-( >:( >:-( >:( >:-(

(OK that rant out of my system).

Actually cable cars and street cars are two different beasts.

Cable cars are propelled by an continuously moving cable that runs just below the street. The operator employs what is known as a "grip" to grasp the cable (a deft task as one doesn't want to have the car lurch into motion especially with passengers standing on the running boards.

A streetcar is driven by internal electric motors and uses a hand throttle similar to that found in a steam or diesel locomotive. Power is supplied by a single overhead wire and one of the rails (to complete the circuit) similar to the light rail trams you have there.

Subway and elevated trains in cities like London, New York, DeeCee, and Chicago employ a third or "hot" rail.to supply power to the trains. each car has a set of spring loaded "shoes" which keep in contact with the rail. While more "elegant (dispensing with need for overhead catenary - e.g. the wire), this setup is extremely hazardous and therefore cannot be employed in surface street systems for were one to step on that rail, they would be instantly electrocuted.

BTW San Francisco was not the only city on the west coast with a cable cars. Seattle also had them (6 lines), as Well as Portland (2 lines), and Tacoma WA (1).

As to N'Awlins, night spots. Check out Pat O'Brien's in the Vieux Carré (French Quarter) at 718 St Peter street (about a half block towards the river from Rue Bourbon). Still the best prices and most honest drinks in town. There are three bars, the Min bar, The Patio (outdoor), and the Piano Par. Signature drinks include The Hurricane (which Pat Obrien's made famous) which is a "knockout" rum concoction served in a tall hurricane glass. That was my regular hangout after work and on off days.

Get there early though as it is a popular place.

...and be forewarned, N'Awlins is a city that doesn't sleep.

Wow, did not know that (about the cable under the street)... around here, "cable cars" are usually the glass-walled ones suspended from a cable for going up mountains and stuff... what do you call those?

Also, living right next door to a fire-station... were there not many fires there? did you not get woken up by the bells (the bellllllls! X) everytime the engines raced off to save somebody's castle?

...the suspended ones go by different names including: cable trams, gondolas, sky trams or what ever suits the fancy of who operates it.

Actually back then, I was usually at work from about 5:00 PM until 1:30 AM (I managed d a Deli shop in Carrolton after which I'd usually head to Pat Obrien's until about 6:30 - 7:00AM) so I was either rarely home or too tired/hung over to notice. Also my bedroom was in the back corner of the building and thus fairly insulated from street noise.

...and window air conditioners make lovely white noise generators.

Any suggestions for stuff to learn (or help learn) Flash?

    I did find these...
    http://www.amazon.com/AdvancED-Game-Design-Flash-Spuy/dp/1430227397/
    http://www.digitaltutors.com/tutorial/749-Flash-for-Games

Unfortunately every book I find is out-of-date - usually by several years.

Blech. Woke up at 7:45AM. A long night full of bizarre dreams, some of which I can probably use as story ideas. :blank: Write 'em all down.

Non-complaint: breakfast at Whataburger! Scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, a buttermilk biscuit, and coffee all for under $5! :bug: And pretty darn tasty. :)

Today: install content, install DS4.6 Pro, play wiht Vicky.. oops.. :red: :red: I want to get her into a flapper dress! I need to fire up PPro 2012 and set up the Advanced Library Manager, I read the docs last night and it doesn't look too complex - should make locating content in my freaking massive runtime easier. :blank: I need Finder for DS 4.6! :blank:

Later this afternoon, a trip out for vodka (heh) and BBQ! Going to get ribsssssssssssssssssss and chickennnnnnnnnnnnnnn yum! The BBQ truck is closed tomorrow so I have to load up today.. le sigh.

Major experiment: I wore my fancy ankle brace to Whataburger instead of the walking boot and it worked pretty well! :bug: I was a little wobbly, but the foot is obviously pretty well healed even if the ankle is the new problem child. If not one thing, than another, but at least the ankle brace fits inside a normal shoe and I don't look like 1/2 of Frankenstein! :ahhh:

    Back to coffee and installing...
