Can anyone suggest ideas on how to make a Street Fighter style fireball in DAZ?

Thanks

Jepe's Flamez or perhaps some of his other stuff? You also could transmap a plane yourself with an image of a fireball. Otherwise, I'd say it's better to do in postwork. DS doesn't really have volumetrics to speak of.

I highly recommend the FX series as well as Jepe's products; I've used them both and am pretty happy with the results.

My most recent book cover: LINK The ambient mystic energy is from Jepes SpecialZ..

This one used HeroFX for the Rift: LINK

Keep in mind that these are all trans-mapped plains so lighting is a big factor in making them pop..

    A few of others:

LINK the sky is actually smoke from FlameZ..

Apologies for the necropost, but there doesn't seem to be a lot out there on the subject of Hero FX.

I cannot seem to get the effect to render with the bone hidden. Having the bone box rendering in the shot kinda dimishes the magic, if you know what I mean. =)

    I dropped the plane in.

I applied the effect I wanted to the plane.

I positioned the plane in the scene.

I rendered. Many times, with and without "visible in render" on the base.

If the base has "visible in render" off, the effect doesn't show up. If it's on, both a ugly box and the purty effect show up in render.

    What I am I missing?

    Thanks!!

Ok, if memory serves me from the times I have used any of these elements or similar ones, the only reason the perimeter box would be showing up is because the actual position of the plane is not parallel to your camera view point or maybe the way the lights are hitting it.

If you go to perspective view and look at the plane for your camera (best done from overhead) you might see that the fireball is most likely on an angle to some degree.

There might be a render setting as well, but I am not sure.

    Hope this helps.

THANK YOU, Thank You, thank you, @scorpio64dragon! That saved me a ton of time, and I doubt I would've figured it out on my very quickly. I was trying to brute force it with the double handful of settings in Daz that I've figured out so far. (I'll be the first to admit that if I read more carefully, I might've figure it out. =)

I was really hoping that it wasn't a facing plane problem, because one of the two FX planes that I needed for the shot is oblique to the camera.

I also bought the Druid pack, but it looks like it'll be a similar but different deal that I'm going to have to knoodle out, too. Hrm. I'd pay extra for vendors who produce "smart content" just for the time it saves me... Makes me leery of buying older generations of content. =\

This is the shot I was trying to create (attached). =) Now I just have to figure out why there's a big black chunk cut out of the render behind the subject. I've even added lighting to spot the area in question to no effect, but it's time to head back to the day job that's paying for this.

    Have a great week!

Try checking the "Hither" and "Yon" settings on the camera... that corner of the backdrop may be cut off for being too far away from the camera.

Thanks, Valandar. I appreciate the pointer, it makes sense that there would be a ray occlusion threshold somewhere in Studio... But I'm seeing neither "Hither" nor "Yon" in camera properties or advanced render options in DS 4.6; is it possible those settings were renamed?
