G8F loading with a funky face

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me understand what's happened here.

I've recently installed G8 and whereas G8M seems to be loading and working just fine, G8F is loading with a very strange face (See image 01 G8FLoad.jpg)

When I inject a character morph, it appears that the morph is not getting applied correctly, and the funky facial features are still present (See image 02 G8F Abby.jpg)

For comparison, I have loaded Grace into both G3F and G8F. Notice that the G3F Grace is shorter and the face is 'normal'* (See image G3-G8Grace.jpg)

*Note: I have altered the textures to remove the eyebrows

I have looked through the 'Currently Used' list but see nothing wrong (I have attached the one while Grace was loaded, see image Currently Used.jpg)

I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Genesis 8 using the Daz Install Manager but there was no change.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be going on or how to fix it?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

  • What does Currently Used show if you load just the base Genesis 8 Female and, from the Parametrs pane option menu (the lined button in the top corner, or right-click the tab), Show Hidden Properties enabled?

  • Looks like you have the "Demona" character in your library. There is a bug in that product file, so that the "Demona Head" morph will always load with 100% on any character as default. You can just put the slider to 0, or delete the morph, or edit the *.duf file and change the wrong default setting from 1 to 0.

    I had a similar problem with G3 some month ago and it took me days to identify it (https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/168756/some-morph-is-distorting-my-g3-female-s-body-but-i-cannot-identify-it-solved#latest)...

    @Richard Haseltine - the fact that these wrong default activated morphs are not shown under "Currently used" is definately a bug that should be fixed - of course (if I already know the general problem) I can look in the character parameter menu whether there is any morph activated which should not be. But if you have a very huge library, as I do, with many transferred morphs from former generations - then you can search for several minutes or longer... I cannot understand what's the difference between a morph I dialed in intentionally and a morph which is dialed in unintentionally by a buggy character *.duf file - both should be visible under "Currently used".

    Thanks for that suggestion, I took a look and still didn't see anything out of whack, which was a bummer!

    Hey that was the problem! I can't tell you how many times I have scrolled through my *huge* list of head morphs looking for the one that was active. YEESH!

    Thanks so much! You rule!

    Non-zero* values should appear under Currently Used, assuming you are using a non-ancient version of DS, regardless of their default values.

    * or, for scales, values other than 100%.

  • Thanks, i too got this problem and now found that the "Demona" head morph is always at 100%, I tried to deinstall and re-install the Genesis 8 female starter kit but it is still active (2017-11-11).

    Would be nice that DAZ gives us an update (or a tip which .duf-file should be edited).

    "Non-zero values should appear under Currently Used" - that's absolutely right, but they don't! And that's exactly the bug - I am using always the newest beta version of DS (I kept an older regular version 4.8 because I was not sure whether GenX would work...), so theoretically it could be a problem which only appears in the beta - but I doubt. It would be nice if you could check it by yourself - in this case it was the Demona character, the last time it was the Nurwen character for G3, and if I look at the forums there seem to be some other cases even with male characters.

    You have to deinstall/delete (or edit...) the Demona head morph, the file which causes the problem is (*Your content library*)\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\TMLI\Demona\FHM Demona.dsf . Send me a message if you need further assistance.

    Thanks, edited it (value to Zero) and it works.

    That's actually something I've run into (although I fixed the morphs and it's been a while, so now I can't remember which ones it was). If the default value of some items is other than 0%/0.00, they don't always appear in Currently Used. No idea why or how. It's very rare, of course, and I have no idea how to duplicate it, but I have seen it in 4.9, at least.

    Thank you mgessat_f159911d19, you saved another life! (: I was already thinking about reinstalling everything - not a pleasant idea, you know.

    @Miranas Art

    Since this has just happened to me i'll give you a hand, you need to find the file: Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female\Morphs\TMLI\Demona\FHM Demona.dsf ,

    1 rename it from .dsf to .rar, decode it and obtain the real .dsf file

    2 rename FHM Demona.dsf to FHM Demona.txt

    3 open the file into a text editor like notepad and find this line ->

    "channel" : {

    "id" : "value",

    "type" : "float",

    "name" : "Value",

    "label" : "Demona Head",

    "auto_follow" : true,

    "value" : 1,

    "min" : 0,

    "max" : 1,

    So where you see value : 1 change that number to 0.

    4 save the file , exit notepade, rename it to .dsf and you are done.

    Hope this could help others, it took me a month since i installed this character to discover this and all my renders done in the meantime have had the morph loaded by default.
