Where does it all go???

I've installed Daz 4.5, apparently OK, and can load Genesis.duf into work-space.

I've also downloaded Tessa for Genesis FBM.

Question:

Where do I unzip it to in this hotch-potch that calls itself "My DAZ 3D Library"?

How do I get it to show in Content Library?

I have tried putting the unzipped files in \people\genesis\characters\tween, but nothing seems to work.
I load Genesis.duf or Basic female.duf into work-space and then try to load (say) FBMTweengirl.dsf,
but all I see is a brief flash of a small window that is so quick I cannot read what it says.

I am totally new to 3D work, so new to DAZ.

Could some kind person please help me. (I have already spent 3-4 days reading every forum and help
website I can find, but Daz seems so complicated I am just not getting anywhere).

    Does the zip contain a Data folder? If so that needs to be merged with the Data folder in your My DAZ 3D Library folder. The same applies to a Runtime folder in the zip, merge it with the Runtime in My DAZ 3D Library. Any other files or folders can go where you like, as long as they aren't in the Runtime or Data folders.

    Hey, that was a quick reply!! Thanks!!

    OK, I put the unzipped data file from Tweens (that's all there is) into My Daz 3D Library so it merged with the existing data file.

    The path is now ..Library\data\Daz 3D\Genesis\Base\Morphs\Murgatroyd\Tweens

    Where do I go from here? The data file does not show in Content Library on the right side of the work-space.

    According to the Reame file inlcluded:

    file list
    /Runtime/Support/Tessa_for_Genesis.dsx
    /Runtime/Support/Tessa_for_Genesis.dsa

    /People/Genesis/Characters/mopar126/Tessa.dsf
    /People/Genesis/Characters/mopar126/Tessa.png
    /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis/Base/Morphs/mopar126/FBMTessa/FBMTessa.dsf
    /data/DAZ 3D/Genesis/Base/Morphs/mopar126/FBMTessa/FBMTessa.png


    If you have dropped the included folders, Data, People and Runtime into your My Library or My DAZ3D Library if you normally use DIM, then you should find the DSF file in the Content Library under /People/Genesis/Characters/mopar126/Tessa.dsf, that is the file you would load.

    That's right. FWIW, the /data/ folder is invisible to you and stuff in here should never be fiddled with directly. What happens is you click on a thumbnail in your content, and that file calls up the other files — some in the /data/ folder, some in other places — that go together to make up whatever you just loaded.

    Thanks for the advice!!

    All seems to be working fine (so far) :-).

    What I would like to find is a diagram of what the "My DAZ 3D Library" file structure should look like.

    I have spent nearly a week searching DAZ site, forums, the internet in general for very basic info, but it doesn't seem to exist.

    Many pages of DAZ wiki appear to be for older versions, and many pages are simply "not found".

    Hey-ho, I'll get there in the end.

    The My DAZ 3D Library folder structure is pretty ridge. It's not as flexible as the Poser Runtime folders. For Daz content to function properly the files must be in the proper paths, even if you do not agree with the path a PA has chosen.

    For the Zip Files I do a Multi Copy and Paste with Merge option on my Win7 PC. For other Items I will hand move each folder to the proper place. So far so good for me.

    For Exe installers I will point them ALL to My DAZ 3D Library as the ending folder path. Also working so far.

    Only the 'data' folder is off limits and should not be messed with. The 'runtime' folder is Poser style files and folder structure and should not messed with if you don't know the rules and restrictions of the runtime structure. You can move DS folders pretty much anywhere in the main folder except to 'data' and 'runtime'. For example I moved 'Animals' under 'Camera Presets' and it still works.

    Never tried that before, I use Categories so my Items are sorted as I like without touching the Default folders. Been doing it that way for years. Just seemed a better Idea than taking a chance.

    And then there's old fogies like me, who've been using D|S since long before this fancy Categories stuff was even thought of. Once I'd learned, mostly from the old forums here, the limits of what could safely be moved and how, that's what I did. Never bothered to set up Categories when they came in, since I was having no problems finding stuff. I think the only content I still have in its "proper" place are the original Gen4 people cr2s and morph sets. So I'll probably never use categories or the DIM because I just plain don't need them. It's a nice idea, though.

    I started setting up categories before it required CMS as that seemed the direction DAZ was moving. I stopped using categories after flaky CMS corrupted the whole thing, now it is back to having multiple libraries.

    It should be noted that only the 'Libraries' folder can be manipulated in such a way. The geometries and texture folders should not be altered, as they will be required by the content you load in. Similarly, other folders within the Runtime folder shouldn't be changed. The Libraries folder, however, shows the folder hierarchy as it is displayed inside programs like Daz Studio and Poser. Here, you can move files from their respective folders to better categorize them.

    I did this extensively after migrating to Daz Studio to make things easier to locate.
