Now available at Vanishing Point: R2 Astromechs for DAZ Studio

The Astromech droids are now available for DAZ Studio for free! First, up: the R2 Unit.

Not only does this package allow you to make R2-D2, but it also includes  poses to create different R2 units seen in the Star Wars movies:
R2-A6, R2-B1, R2-D1, R2-D2, R2-D3, and more!
And you can create your own R2 unit simply by changing the "base" and "trim" coloring!

This R2 unit includes:
* Rotating head
* Rotating outer legs
* Rotating outer and inner feet
* Extending middle leg
* Extending outer and middle foot-wheels
* "Standing" and "moving" pose files
* Moving upper and lower middle arms
* Left and right opening door hatches
* Left extending service arm with data access module (seen in Star Wars when playing holo-chess and accessing the Death Star computer)
* Right extending service arm with claw (seen in The Empire Strikes Back when fighting with Yoda over food)
* Opening hatch in head and extending and rotating "radar" (seen in The Empire Strikes Back when searching for Luke and Han)
* Extending and rotating "sensorscope" (seen in The Empire Strikes Back when under water on Dagobah)
Does not include the side rockets (seen in the Attack of the Clones droid factory scene)- R2-D2 never had these rockets until Lucas wrote himself into a corner and needed a flying robot. ;)

Includes Iray materials and no textures are needed.

And, yes, in the coming days, the other astromechs will also be released as DAZ Studio versions: R3, R4, R5, R6, and R7.

Comments

  • Excellent! These Iray materials are fully operational! (And much better than my own rather dodgy efforts to convert the originals.)

  • And the R3 and R4 Astromechs are also available for free, also in the Star Wars section.

  • And let's not forget about everyone's favorite malfunctioning droid: R5-D4. Okay, maybe he's not everyone's favorite, but if he hadn't broken down, then Uncle Owen woudn't have bought R2-D2 and who knows if Princess Leia's message and the Death Star plans would have reached Obi-Wan.

    As with all these Astromech Droids, this includes a dsf and duf/ png files, Stand and Walking poses, and 10 material presets.

    For use in DAZ Studio 4.9 and above; uses Iray shaders on all the materials.

    R5D4, 1

    R5-D4, 2

    Thank you for doing this.  Loving all the Star Wars stuff you've been doing.

    Did you fix the problem I've had where with the pariscope, as seen in this picture (the droid is on the far right)

    That's the welding problem when you load the original Poser version into DAZ|Studio — the mesh around the edge of the scope hatch on the head merged with the mesh around the edge of the scope, so the mesh was "stretched" when you raised the scope. Easily fixed, if you have a modelling program like Hexagon (simply load then re-save the .obj file) but a definite bang-head-against-the-wall moment if you don't know what's happening. Yes, it's fixed in the new D|S version. And the new Iray materials look great.
