    ...edit ...

The only problem with starting with a cylinder is the fact that it has to be modeled over a T-posed figure, and has to cover the arms spread out. Not only that, but the real thing is made from a circle of cloth, not a tube, and I really want to make this look and work as authentically as possible.

Circle from centre, fill with a coon's surface, will give a flat circle plane ... sure would be nice if we could make dynamic clothing!

Obviously a lot more surfaces would be required to model the cape, but this is what I was thinking of.
Yeah. That's definitely not what I was thinking of. This is more my planned start shape. being able to make working dynamic clothing in Daz would be nice, though I haven't even managed to get Optitrex's dymanic clothes to work for me in Daz.

Somedays things happen that are just unbelievable. Some big man was very upset with the fact that we are trying to help each other make clothing ... he/they wants to do this themselves ... ??? Okay ... so I have removed all my tutorials and consider this thread closed.

I have zero tolerance for bullying.

I'd also say that this is a wrong sign. You put some serious effort (along with other people contributing) into this thread and I among others appreciate the work and gathered information, readily available to the public. Removing anything in here will hurt the community effort.

It is your decision of course in the end, but please reconsider.

That isn't fair. Please don't let him intimidate you. People need your tutorials.

If you are being harassed, it is probably a violation of the rules. Tell the moderators.

If any harassment occurs on the site then yes, it needs to be reported to the mods.

Patience, you really should talk to Richard about this! Don't go away hurt and upset. This is one area where the Mods truly shine!

Whoever was fool enough to BULLY someone into REMOVING tutorials, no matter who they are or what they are about, are downright shortsighted and likely all about "MEMEMEME!".

Don't want a tutorial to learn to rig? Fine. DON'T READ THEM.

Patience55, you are doing a service to the community with your tutorials, and don't let someone with no clue what anything's about make you stop unless you are CERTAIN you want to stop.

Really? I was so following this Convo and really enjoying it. Who, where, when. I know people. So hope you decide to move past this.

Who would do such a thing? Most of us learned a lot of what we know by finding online tutorials and asking questions in forums.

If you have zero tolerance for bullying, then show it by putting your tutorials back, telling the "big man" to go to hell, and reporting him to the moderators.

Please don't pull your tutorials. This is the only thread I have been reading through. You have been doing an amazing job helping out people like myself. It is because of tutorials like yours that make it more understandable and easier to learn.

Thank you all for your support. Much appreciated.

As to "who would do such a thing"? Well, somebody who is/was/may he rot in hell planning to release his own [no I don't know the details save that is it is NOBODY of the PAs here] who figured I was competition. When it's coming from a direction one thought one had support from, can knock the wind out of the sails for abit ... but [so far] I'm still alive anyway.

Was working on a skirt ... btw - do NOT make piping bands for waistbands either. Not on Genesis. Was trying out a few different waistband ideas for "simple/fast" [as in I have not mastered those weights yet either] so ...

But textures, got some nice ones in the works.

Well, he can just get over himself. Helpful rigging threads abounded for Poser in V4's heyday, and those didn't stop V4 clothing tutorials from doing fine at Renderosity. He is being unkind for literally no good reason, and he's lucky you're too polite to say who he is and immediately kill his sales forever.

Glad your back Patience. Don't let that dude get to you. SY's right. Plenty of tuts out there but it's always nice to have a fresh perspective from others and you have a hell of a good thread going on here!

    Nice skirt! :-)

This isn't going to be a complete tut. Just a start for another method of making a skirt.

Lines can be your modeling friends ;-)

    thank you ;-)

I finally did it! yessirresir! [right click, add to dictionary]

Made a long full skirt that is smooth and wrinkles when it should :-) :-) :-)

Made some skirt handles, applied some weight to the bones [now they work!]
Skirt can 'sit' and it makes a lot of neat folds.
A few of the wrinkles ... either doubled or I need to tweak some setting.

Smoothing between groups in the weight group editor helps that somewhat, but it depends on your poly count - if it's under 10k I'd say subdivide it.

Looks really good though. Yea, Sub D it and it should smooth it out some more. I love the sitting morph or how you got the pose bones working there. Very nice. Some sitting morphs leave the dresses too .... I don't know, they look weird to me. lol

    Thanks for the replies.

I'll have to check the number, had smoothed the skirt to level 2 in Hexagon. As I'm still learning about the weight brush I suspect there should be a border of influence that is perhaps not set quite right. Next weekend I hope to have more time to work with it.

The sitting skirt was done by posing the lower skirt handles.

Oh if you saw the uvmap ... that needs a wee bit of work. I really wish pinning worked in Hexagon.

I got started on my cloak last night, and pretty much have all of the modeling done, though I still need to collapse he geometry, UV map is, and assign Mat zones. Rigging this things going to be a pup though. I have no idea how I'm going to pull that off. I've started a WIP thread in the HExagon Discussion forum here.

    Anywhat take a look.

    Looks like a good start!

Rigging in D/S4 is much easier with the weight mapping and all. Should be possible.

Best of luck with the rigging. I'm having problems just rigging a small shawl, and that looks much more work.

Yeah, well the only rigging I've done is with the Transfer Utility, and have only just tried my first successful use of the Weight map feature. I really don't know how to use it. My very first attempt at adjusting weight maps (converting this to Genesis, and trying to fix the sleeves so that they'd move and drape properly) was a mess.

The basic rig would probably be very similar. The only real difference is this is floor-length.

I made a second attempt at rigging a circle shawl ... oh gee ...

First try with transfer ... one arm worked, the 2nd arm didn't get the bones, etc assigned right ???
Second try, different mesh ... well we got the bones. Deleted some, made a "handle" ...
There seems to be quite a lot to learn with regards to applying "weight" ...

You know, with photography one might take 400 photos before getting "just the right one" ...
Beginning to wonder how many attempts people make before getting an outfit "that really works".
