    Hey Oso3D,

I got this prodcut yesterday, but for DAZ3D beginners it's a little bit hard to understand. It would very helpfull if you could update this product and attach a PDF manual with 2 or 3 examples.

Is it intended that the shaders don't appear in the smart content as a product?

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,015

The readme was not included in the product for some reason (I hope to have that fixed shortly).

It's not a PDF with examples, but hopefully it will help you out!

Thanks answered my question before I could ask it, I saw it had been updated and wondered why?

This is crashing the latest 4.12 Beta version of Daz Studio whenever I try to do a render.  It works ok in DS 4.11.

Before I raise a support ticket, is anyone able to do a render using this shader with Daz Studio 4.12?

It works on Studio 4.12, I haven't tried it on the beta though.

Just tried it on the bet 4.12.1.16 and it shuts it down a few seconds after I loaded the shader. There is nothing in the log to suggest a problem other that where it says Rendering at the bottom Studio is unresponsive and nothin that I clicked on responded and there was no Studio Isn't Responding warning.

Thanks for checking this out Fishtales.

It's good to get confirmation that it isn't something specific to my system.

Let's not have that fight here. ;)

Anyhoo, this is kind of a weird render, but it highlights something I'm very happy about and proud of in this product, which is the ability to have fairly convincing smoke and cloud effects. Where this exceeds other attempts is the procedural displacement, which helps create that rippling effect, plus some variation in refraction to capture more surface qualities to give it dimension.

    Anyway, here you go.

    Great googly moogly!

Well I purchased this and I wait with fingers crossed for someone to upload the video showing the beauty of how this works. I have printed out the pdf file, all three pages to use as a reference. Problem is I am drawing a blank because there has been nothing posted to tigger my brain cells into trying this. So if someone does a video tutorial I would really be a happy camper. wink

Well, a good place to start is simply trying out some of the presets.

The cloud and smoke presets are fun to play with, maybe some rocks... find something monstery to use with the more glowy presets.

I quite like this shader, I see a lot of potential with it.

I've got this grommetted leather belt material started.  However, I'm trying to get the bump off of the overlay part (the metal grommets).  It looks like the overlay bump strength slider isn't doing anything.  The base bump strength seems to be controlling both layers' bump.

Here's what I mean.  The first has bump at 1 and overlay bump at zero and the bump is on both layers.

The second one has bump at zero and overlay bump at zero, and looks as expected.

The third has bump at zero and overlay at 1 and it looks the same as if both are zero.

Huh. I'll look into it, thanks.

I'm still planning on a fix for this, just so people know.

I'm just buried in one of the biggest projects I've ever worked on (basically, 4 products planned as a bundle. eeep)

  • I have all your shaders, and they're all indespensible, so I'll be adding this one to the collection as well.

    sigh...

Male and Female anthro, with addon for each.

    It's... ambitious as heck. Mmph

you do seem to do pretty darn well with ambitous off-the-beaten-path projects.  it's kinda your deal, seems to me.  :)

anyway, i will await this one with great interest and curiosity.

good luck!  and thanks for the hint.  :)

Is it too much to hope for that they would be your namesakes?

Ok, sorry this took so long to get back to, but looking more carefully...

Yes, the Overlay Bump Strength doesn't seem to be working, which is annoying. On the other hand, I'm not sure it matters?

Bump Strength will essentially determine how high/low the Base level is compared to the Overlay level. You can set that to any value; the only thing that would matter is the difference between the two values. If you just consider Overlay Bump Strength set to 0, then all you really need is different levels of Base Bump.

  • @Oso3D I'm a bit confused on how to use the product (I did see the readme in the forum, which I didn't see with the product). In Daz 4.14 I see some things under Shader and the rest under lost and found. The shaders seem to be the underlying white/black maps and the lost and found seems to be colors. For the most part if I try to apply the colors (OMS flame for example), or even alot of times when I apply the shaders then color it usually crashes. I tried to use Daz Dragon 3 because the promos used it to reduce variables. I literally have nothing else in the scene. Sometimes it in very rare instances if I apply the shader first then color it might sort of render. But I still don't understand how to really apply them the way you are explaining in the thread.

I think it might help to explain a step by step example. For example in the very first picture in your promo, the guy with molten lava hands and legs - what exactly would you do to a model to arrive at that molten lava look?

I really like your stuff btw especially the pixie dragons!

  • Oso3DOso3D Posts: 15,015

Well, if you click on a surface and apply the preset, bam, there it is.

For the guy with molten lava hands and legs, I put a mask in the Overlay luminance so that it only glowed at the extremities.

  • @Oso3D I do apply the preset to a specific surface (like skin surfaces) but most of the time it ends up crashing?

  • Well maybe I just needed a restart, it doesnt seem to be crashing any more? Weird
