G8 characters HD Add-On... Are they worth it?

Hello fellow 3D artists,

I've been an avid HD Add-On hoarder for the G3 characters and although I did enjoy them, I came to learn that equal results could be obtained wih the normal maps included with the characters and that the HD Add-Ons only converted to geometry what the normal maps already did with texturizing. Is it the same with the G8 versions of the Add-Ons? Can anyone enlighten me?
