What's this about installers being phased out?

Does anyone know what this announcement actually means? When I click on the "check it out today" button it just sends me to my product library page. So far this has been an easy way to download installers and I'm perfectly happy with that. Does this means they are going to stop us downloading installers and say we have to use their Install Manager?

They have also said that the DIM will not be mandatory.
If you don't want to use it you can still download your purchases manually by going to your account using the link at top right of the forum and then to Product Library.
What is changing is that installers are being phased out and purchases in future will come in Zip format.
The products will be now packed in ZIP files, as is common in other webstores (like Rendo e.g.). You don´t have to use DAZ Install Manager, you can download the ZIPs from your Product Library and unpack them with your usual un-zipping software.
On balance, I like this change. It'll make it a lot easier to see what goes where when I install a Daz item; previously, I had to watch the install bar real carefully as it zipped by to try to catch what the folder name of the item was, or read the readme file afterward. This is much more convenient.
On the whole I agree with joea64 that this is an improvement. Several times I have bought items that were released before the readme was put on the site so I had to install them again into an empty directory to find where everything was.
It would be nice if they put a copy of the pdf export from the readme into the zip file. The one good thing about the installers was that they looked this up for you.
I actually think the install manager is a big improvement. It makes downloading and installing new content much faster and easier. The big advantage though is it automatically detects when new versions of a product are released and offers to download and update the content for you. Previously, I had no idea when content got updated to fix issues.
The one thing I miss about the installers is the link to the product page. For lots of products you need that link to the product page to figure out where all of the pieces got installed. You can still find the product readmes from the documentation center, but it helps if you know the product number. The product number will be harder to find once the old installers are gone.
If you click the information (i) link in Install Manager it opens the readme page.
I've looked for this a couple of time in DIM and couldn't find it. Will have to try again. It must be there.
