How do I get rid of these spots in Iray Render?

This creates an interesting question...we have a lot of PAs designing ONLY for Daz 4.11. A lot of of new figures use this chromatic SSS, and very few offer a mono option in their material presets. This strikes me very strange. Sure, its fairly easy to install the beta, but this detail is never included on the product description. I don't think I've ever seen a product actually list Daz 4.11 under requirements. How is the average user supposed to know this?

Users can check in the surface settings, but that is after they already purchased and installed the product. You should be better about this, Daz. People need to be informed of what they are purchasing BEFORE they purchase.

And release the official 4.11 already. What's taking so long?

Don't forget that the Chromatic SSS works normally if Draw Dome is on even in 4.10.x.x

That's not an excuse. This topic pops up frequently enough to demonstrate that there are people who render without draw dome on for different reasons. Some people require transparent BGs for their work.

I've honestly never even heard about this issue before. Is it a widespread problem with newer figures? What error does it cause?

It causes holes to appear where they should not in the characters skin. When looked at in an image viewer that adds a white background the holes are seen as white spots, hence the title of the thread.

Sure, its fairly easy to install the beta, but this detail is never included on the product description. I don't think I've ever seen a product actually list Daz 4.11 under requirements.

The "Requirements" section of the store pages doesn't work that way — it doesn't show the D|S version that product works with, what it actually shows is the current release version of D|S, so it won't show "4.11" until that version comes out of beta.

There are a few wrinkles and gotchas to this, as well; when 4.11 comes out of beta, all store products that have full D|S-format files will change to show a requirement of 4.11 — whether or not they still work in 4.11. We've been through this before, most often when an existing plugin or script uses program features that don't work any more in the newly-out-of-beta D|S version.

Sometimes there's a mention of this in the store page's Details or Notes sections, but more often there isn't. Until we complain enough...

I was conversing with a PA not too long ago, talking about DS versions, and he said, " I don't use any of the public builds, we use a PA version which is pretty much just the BETA really." That explains why the PAs are designing for features that haven't been released yet. It makes sense that Daz wants the PAs to use the version that's going to be released soon, so the products stay current as long as possible.

However, I think the time between the 4.10 release and now, without a new version release, is the longest I've experienced. (That could just be perception, though.) The build number for the currently released Beta is 4.11.0.236. The build number for the last entry in the change log is 4.11.0.305. I really don't see Daz releasing a 4.11 public build until after the final beta release gives customers a chance to give Daz some feedback. The next beta release will be the 5th for 4.11, with no guarantee it will be the last.

I'm just as eager for the next beta release as you are for the public release. There has been a lot of work on dForce and I'm excited to see where it's at now.

Really? I didn't know that, actually. What kind of improvements? I have the 4.11 Beta but I rarely use it because I'm afraid of stability.

I have no idea what those improvements are. However, the 3rd public beta was released with dForce build 1.1.0.82. Recently the 4.11 Change Log has included several dForce updates in the private build, with the latest build including an update to dForce 1.1.0.162.

I run the latest 4.11 beta along side the latest release version of 4.9. In fact, I use the beta almost exclusively. In my experience, the 4.11 beta isn't any more unstable than the released version. That may be due, in part, to the GTX1080 video card and/or the 64GB of system RAM. And I save often. At least, I try to. I've gotten much better at that the past several months.

I am having this same problem with DS 4.12. I get many white patches in the skin and clothing with environment modes scene only, dome and scene, sun and sky,  the last two with both draw dome on or off, The only mode that does not leave these white gaps is dome only. Fine except that I don't want to use dome lighting. I want to use the lights that I have set up for the scene. The problem occurs with one and only one figure. I am not saying which, because I do not want to hurt the developer whose products are otherwise excellent and do not have this problem.  Moreover, that leads me to belive that the problem could be mine; I may be doing something wrong. If you know what the problem could be or have any suggestions for troubleshooting the problem I would be much obliged to hear from you.

    PS, I tried rendereing with the dome only. Although the results were not as bad as the others, it was still there.;

  • I had the same issue just now (black dots out of nowhere). I was able to fix it with draw dome and draw ground off.

  • What worked for me is setting SSS "transmitted color" from white to gray (on hair)
