RE: Moods Bundle - Expressions for Genesis

How can I get these expressions to work in Carrara 8.5? I assume it's because they're all .dsa format, so how would I convert they to .duf or a format that C8.5 can understand?

Main Menu Bar > Window > Panes (Tabs) > Batch Convert

I think that is what you are looking for, I haven't tried it yet personally. Don't have much for genesis now, not blowing money on it until I know it works great in carrara, probably wait until it is out of beta for a while.

I looked at that but there is no option to go from dsa to dsf or duf

Doh, sorry, saw the DUF checkbox and didn't realize it was converting from DUF.
    :(

Could try this one, I just searched, I don't have any expressions for genesis to test it on, just have a few pose sets, and they are already DUF.

Pose preset can save your pose as a .DUF. But I see no way to limit it to just the face/head. I've tested it and it does work, but poses the entire figure and the emotion.

    Got it figured out, you have to open properties to the head, uncheck everything then check just the head, and save out as DUF. Then import to carrara; although I haven't tried just moving it to the Genesis pose folder. {or not, I'll get back to you lol }

    That would be genesis/hip/abdomen/abdomen2/neck/head.

Edit to add: I have hit a bug. If I save as the full pose everything comes through, if I save just the head pose no face pose comes through, and I'm at a loss as to why. I mean that is the way it should work.

I was wrong, I had one expression set, just wasn't installed, expressive for genesis. I tried to save out as DUF, keeping everything checked as default. Applied it in carrara and nothing happened :(

I tried saving out a default genesis as DUF scene with an expression applied, here is the result in carrara. Yikes! Bottom one is the same file in daz studio. Something is not right lol.

Be sure to bug report it. https://bugs.daz3d.com

I don't because my bug reports get summarily dismissed.

It is, but Expressives just works out of the box in C8.5b, doesn't it?
Unless I've been seeing something else all this time, it kind of always has. I don't know the other product - I'll have to check it out.
Does it add dials to Genesis, or just DS poses? Must be poses, from the sound of things.

I have Expressions aniblocks and More expressions aniblocks (both for Genesis) in my wishlist, mostly to have the extra expressions dials added to Genesis, which it looks like this comes with. I'm fairly certain that any of the shape dial additions to Genesis simply work out of the box in Carrara 8.5b. It's hard to tell if they work better than they did several builds ago, because my Genesis creations for Carrara are Orcs - and the expression dials are just too fun on Orcs! :)

    (Edit)
Okay, in the above two links, it states in the products description that you get expression dials in addition to the aniblocks.
I've looked into your bundle (Includes Positive and Negative expressions, right?) and although it can be hard to tell from the ad, it looks like these are Poses. Weren't they fixing 8.5 beta a build or two ago to make these types of files work in Carrara? or did they just make products include the necessary DUF files to make them work? But I thought that they even made it so that you can (even though you are to expect funky results) even load pre-Genesis poses (PZ2's) on Genesis in 8.5b?

I don't know. I guess I shouldn't have run DIM in the Daz Studio content location - because certain products (not DIM's fault) added folders all over the place in the library - making me want to avoid my DS library completely now. Easy fix, as I made a back-up of my previous library before running it. But it made it really hard to figure out what works with 8.5b and what doesn't with all of those dog gone empty (to Carrara) folders laying around in there like trash. Still really peeved about that. When I only installed Genesis products to that library - it was much better for me.

    Sorry for the rant, there!

Within the blue, quote region in my above post, I mentioned that the bundle is likely pose - style expressions, and not shape dials.
Either way, they should now be working. I think.

Like ManStan (who is quite an expert at Genesis by now, I believe) says, you should submit a bug report if you haven't done so already.

If you've purchased the bundle a while back, you may want to see if it was updated. One thing I love about DIM is how it tells you if you have updates available for what it has installed for you. I just have to start my DS library over again and keep it limited to only get Genesis stuff - and access everything else (in DS) as I always have in the past - using the Poser-style runtimes.

I know that they want to update everything to DUF - eventually. Perhaps a support ticket would get faster results?

All in all, I really hope that all of this sort of thing gets ironed out asap, as I find Genesis to be an invaluable addition.

For me, I still wish that I could get a version with more scalable teeth - as they are too big for the main character - whom I want more than anyone to take advantage of the Genesis technology. Maybe it's just me. Maybe Thorne has that in one of those excellent resource packs? I must dig deeper.

there were issues with the Genesis expressions when they were first released,. which caused over morphing,. and distorted shapes,. but those issues were fixed in an update to the expressions,.

If your genesis expressions are new,. ...they should work

if not,.. re-download the expressions packs.

Yeah... those "expressives" were different, Andy. The one's in question are in this Moods Bundle, I believe, which are applied via DS Pose, again... I believe.

I've re-downloaded the installers and the DIM versions, and all that's provided is .dsa files, which work quite well with Genesis and all its incarnations, in Daz Studio. Not so in Carrara 8.5 You'd think that a product for genesis would be updated to work in both programs as many other pose presets do, but quite possibly its the responsibility of the product creator to provide updates. I don't know. I looked at DSF Toolbox but that was no help either. As far as I can determine the poses are achieved via dial spinning and then saved out as a preset, and I can re-create the expression in C8.5, but that seems like a lot of work. To me the solution is simple, use a different expression product to try and achieve a similar result. Thanks for all your input

Right. What I meant is that you apply a pose file to Genesis to achieve the expression - rather than spinning a dial. Which is a great way to do it - and I know that if there are any out there that haven't been made to work yet, that they want to know about it - it will be fixed. I'm surprised it hasn't.

If you look at the product description
    under "What's Included & Features"

•Negative Moods - Expressions for Genesis: (.DSF)

◦48 Eye Position Poses (plus one zeroed eye pose) (.DSA)

◦1 Zeroed Expression Pose in each expressions folder for ease of use
    ◦5 Depression Expressions
    ◦5 Anxiety Expressions
    ◦5 Aggression Expressions
    ◦5 Fear Expressions
    ◦5 Boredom Expressions
    ◦5 Disappointment Expressions
    ◦5 Frustration Expressions
    ◦5 Jealousy Expressions
    ◦5 Worry Expressions
    ◦5 Overwhelment Expressions

There is not one .dsf file in the Bundle even though it mentions .dsf
Actually I just noticed it now while checking the product description
