how do you permanently save parameter settings?

No matter what I try, I can't figure out how to save a parameter change permanently - as soon as I restart the Studio application (windows 10, Studio 4.10), all my edits are gone.

Which parameters of what are you changing, a figure, an object, a material, a light, a render setting? Different things get saved in different ways.
I'm just messing around with morph dials in parameters tab, under actor > ...
You mean you're changing a figure. The easiest way to save that is to save as a Character Preset (and take care not to save over your original figure file). What was happening to cause your problem was that every time you started DAZ|Studio, it loaded the original figure file. This is not part of the program, it's saved among your content files.
