Not sure what the taxis are where you live, but here in Dallas, they come in all shapes and size, most are mini vans and have little to nothing on top to show they are a taxi.Mostly just repainted

We don't have vans. A classic yellow cab would be ncie though.

First Bastion has a low res SUV  with several different paint jobs, including a yellow taxi. https://www.daz3d.com/1stbastion-s-oncoming-traffic-lo-poly-suv

    Amen to that.

What I've done, while waiting for a proper taxi to appear, is take an ordinary car model (this one's a police car from Rendo) and add a scaled up "capsule semi" from the Everday Morphing Primitives which I've recoloured and applied an iray decal to. Fortunately I don't need much of an interior so I haven't had to create a taximeter - but that wouldn't be all that hard to make from primitives either.

    Very clever. Nice kitbashing.

    Nice work Chris!

I did the same with a crown vic taxi from here http://www.dmi-3d.net/ slapped some iray shaders on it  and it works great for my scene.

Yes, just like Police Cars the Crown Vic is the most commonly used vehicle model used for taxicabs so if you have that NYPD police cruiser over at Rendo you probably can re-texture it pretty easy (& it should even have that cage between driver & passenger like police cars have although I don't have the product myself it is $30).

Thanks. it's a fairly detailed model (239K of polys) so it works well for closeups also. It's an .LWO file, so you would need to convert it to .OBJ. I used UU3D, but carara does LWO files as well as the newest poser.

Not all taxi cars are the same.  The one I mainly use is a white Toyota I think.

I realize that. I think though for the sake of recognition I would want the kind of classic yellow one. Thats sort of the classic tv model at least in the states and its easily identified..

  • Looks like somebody's listening, provided you don't want a modern one: https://www.daz3d.com/cabs-n-cops

That product includes a cab sign prop that could be used on other cars.

...however, one has to check the format as no all the models in obj format so they won't work directly in Daz without some form of conversion in another programme.

True, but there are many small and large apps that convert files to various formats and since this is 3D I would think users would have the foresight to have a few of these on their PC. Carrara and Poser both read .LWO files. Seems odd to me that a user in this community would just have DS only installed.

  • Just to add my own two cents. I think a classic "New York Checker cab" would be nice. You see them in some of the old movies. Just do a search on one for an image. That, I would buy if someone made it.

  • In case you're still looking, 2nd_World has an 'Everyday 4-door sedan' over at Rendo. There's a taxi option, and it's on sale at 50% off.

    Thanks. I check it out!
