Can I import my own models into Daz3d?

Before I even get started installing this software; I need to know if Daz3D can import my 3D models made from other prgrams (3DS Max/Meta/Maya etc.) formats like.fbx/.qo/.obj? Can I import my own models to use in Daz3D?

Comments

  • absolutely, I import blender OBJ's all the time.

You'll just lose the rigging, and you'll probably have to adapt the textures.

  • I'll 'lose the rigging', what does that mean? I won't be able to pose my imported model in the program? So you can only pose Daz3D's preset models?

No, you can rigg everything you imported in Daz Studio.

As far as I know you just can't import a rigged figure with all the rigging etc. done somewhere else.

At least not from Blender to Daz Studio.

But you can prepare your figure in your modeler to make rigging in Daz Studio easier.

Here is one very good way to do that for a hard surface model.

You can also do that manually.

You will need the Joint Editor Tool, the Node Weight Map Brush Tool and the Geometry Editor Tool.

if you have Poser 11.1 pro that will import the FBX rigged and saved as a cr2 DAZ studio will load it rigged.

D|S FBX import is pretty sucky

  • My model wasn't rigged in any other program.

I just imported it in Daz3D, and it shows very tiny in the view; and I don't see a scale tool. Is there a scale tool?

So I can rig my imported model; does it also inculde facial rigging?

During import you can select a scale, either "custom" in % or in units as the are used in Maya, Blender, etc. .

You need to play around with the scale in your source program and the import scale to get the result you want.

You can rig what ever you want in general. Check the genesis figures to see how the facial rigging is done there.

    Kind regards, Eagle99

You need to import the character at its original scale when using morph loader. If it was made in poser, use poser scale, if it was made in lightwave, you need to apply to original scale when doing import.

You would use the convert to triax geometry, then use the joint editor / weight maps to get the right rigging.

  • How do I import a model? I downloaded two models that are currently in a .zip folder, do I need to extract it? If so, what do I need to do to import it into the Studio?
