How do you apply a surface shader to another surface?

I have a prop with several surface groups. I made a shader in the surface editor for one group. How can I apply that shader to another surface?

  • If you already have the same base shader (Daz Default Shader, Iray Uber base, etc.) applied to both, use the Copy Surface/Paste Surfaces commands from the Surfaces pane option menu (the lined button in the top corner or right-click the tab) or from the Edit>Copy/Edit>Paste menus. Alternatively, with the model and the finished surface on the model selected go to File>Save As>Shader preset, then select the other surface (with the model selected) and double-click that preset.

I used the copy selected surface/paste selected surface method but didn't work. Itried to do it all in the surfaces Editor pane. Here is what I did:

Select model in the scenes tab. Select the surface group in the surface pane. Right click on the surface group > copy selected surface. Right Click the other surface group > paste selected surface.  Is this the correct procedure? The property sliders copied OK but the model doesn't show the new shader.

Also tried the pre-set. Selected the surface  from the grouping section of the tool settings pane and double-clicked the preset but it didn't change the surface.

It worked OK on another surface. I must have messed up the integrety of the other surface. Thank you for help.

The shader won't copy and paste, so you need to apply that first if it isn't the one that is initally applied.
