purchasing DAZ content for the Genesis figure

I'm confused with the DAZ website. For example, if I wanted to buy Stephanie 5 Elite Texture Joanie. The website states that this product is compatible with the Genesis figure. Then it states at the top: Required Products: Stephanie 5.

So does this mean that I still need to buy the Stephanie 5 figure? I only have the genesis figure.

Stephanie 5, S5, is a character morph for Genesis and it also contains UVs for S5. I don't know if Joanie uses V4, V5 or S5 UVs, but that is mostly the reason for the prerequisite.

Another thing is that the texture and morph usually works together and without the S5 morphs you won't get as good result as with them.

But the way the website is set up, it really seems as if I NEED to buy the Stephanie 5 figure or this product will not work. I just need to know if this product will work with the Genesis figure without having to also purchase the Stephanie 5 figure. This is really confusing when it says compatible with Genesis and then it shows another figure as a requirement. There are several other listings like this too. This seems like DAZ would be losing money over products like this. If Stephanie 5 IS required then there is no way that I am going to purchase it. I would just buy another product where there are no other requirements except for the Genesis character.

There are only two ways to find out for sure 1: if some kind person who has S5 could advise or 2: contacting Daz3D staff via the Help menu above and fill out a ticket to the tech department. We are all volunteers so we don't have every product that is in the store to check things like this.

I'm afraid I agree, cav8000. I'm new to Daz but I'm not dumb, and I can't figure out whether I should be looking for V4 or V5 characters, or any of the other characters, or looking only for characters/content that's compatible to Genesis. Or should I not be looking at characters but just morph bundles for Genesis? I keep compiling a shopping list, thinking I've at last got a grasp on it, but then I see more content which stipulates other requirements and I'm back to square one wondering what on earth I should be seeking to acquire.

If someone could just point me in the direction of what I need to start compiling some good characters, scenes, props etc I'd be extremely grateful, cos at the moment I just have a headache!

Yes, the Joanie textures do use the Stephanie 5 UV set and so you need the Stephanie 5 add-on for Genesis to make them work.

Hello and welcome. We've all been there in the dark tunnel of confusion, we all know what it feels like. Basically there are a few factors to consider when you make that kind of shopping decisions.

First: What do you have now?
What base figure(s) do you have and what base figures do you plan to use and what software(s) are you using. This will narrow it down, specially in the beginning when you are new and don't have a steady grasp on things, but hey, I did a purchase as late as today where I forgot to check the prerequisites, in another store though where is's even harder to understand.

Second: What are your primary needs to get flying?
There are always some primary needs (things you want to do and want to have done yesterday) that should control the initial purchases. If you run off (like I did) you might either just get bored as you never get anything done or you wont be invited to your creditcards next birthday party. Focus on what you wanna achieve, and pick what you need, then expand your collection.

    Three: The Platinum Club
If you are at least serious and want to get going, you will payback the platinum club membership almost instantly as you can get a huge collection of very good things for a bargain.

    Fourth: Bundles
I made that mistake when I started, I forgot the bundles, tons of great items for a great price.

Fifth: So what do you need and how do things stick together?
After some good advice I hope you are ready to know how things "stick together".
Figures, including skins, morphs and clothes (and sometimes hairs) are in generations, and for certain figures. You have:

    – Gen 3 (D3 (David), M3 (Michael) V3 (Victoria) and Sp3(Stephanie Petite). Gen three are old. Unless you have an investment in those, forget about them. Some clothes are great and can be autofit to Genesis, some won't.

    - Gen 4 (M4/S4/V4/F4/H4/A4) generation Four. Where The Male stuff can work on all different males using Unimesh fits and female stuff the same way. If you use Poser you are probably going to dig deep in the Gen 4 store, and same rules apply to clothes with Autofit as to Gen 3, some work, some wont. Skins works for Genesis, but you need Gen-X to move morphs over. Morphs can mix within same gender

    - Gen 5 (Genesis) with Genesis Male & Female, V5/M5/S5/F5/D5H5/A5. All clothes fits on all figures, Morphs can be mixed across all. Can use Skins from Gen 4, and clothes from gen 3 & 4 via Autofit (as long as you work in DAZ Studio). Autofit doesn't solve everything, specially skirts, dresses and shoes is a pain.

Now, if you started with 3D posing and don't have any "luggage" in your history, aim for Generation 5, Genesis. Be careful of things stating M5/V5/S5 etc as they might require those morphs or use those UVs so if you don't have those, either be careful or get the V5 or M5 bundle, which will kickstart you in the right direction. I wish I had done that (with M4/V4 bundles) when I started, now I picked stuff and got those much when I had most of it (but it was still cheaper than getting those other items one by one.

I hope I made things a little clearer.
