[Solved] PC unresponsive during render.

Hello, fellow artists and friends from Daz3D,

I've encountered a rather strange situation lately... I recently, I'm not sure since when, started experiencing some major performance cripple on my computer, whenever I am rendering in Daz Studio. I used to be able to use my browser and even watch videos while rendering, while now I'm not even able to write a .txt file with proper responsiveness. I thought this was a consequence of my GPU swap (I had a GTX 1070 and switched to a Titan Xp, so I was thinking it was some kind of compatibility issue), but it turns out I tested both GPUs and got the same problem. Even in simple scenes with one HDRI light and one model, I get this kind of behavior. Daz Studio itself becomes laggy while rendering and even moving my viewport with Iray mode selected is difficult. What is curious, though, is that with Iray preview mode, although even moving the camera feels laggy, I have no performance hit on the computer, meaning I can set an Iray preview to resolve on my viewport while browsing the internet.

Is this a normal thing on the current Daz Studio/Iray/nVidia drivers version?

Is DS actually using the Titan? Ceck the Advanced tab of the Render Settings pane to make sure it is shown and cehcked.

Yes D= it even recognizes the collector's edition

  • Ok, next thing to do is check the log (Help>Troubleshooting>View Log File) after rendering, if you scroll to thee nd it should give a summary of what device contributed how much to the render.

Is this what I should be looking at?

  • OK, I'm feeling like an idiot right now, but I had Architectural Sampler turned on... I always forget that when I create a new scene, the render settings don't reverse back to default... It was the Architectural Sampler in the end...

You can set preferences to revert or retain settings on opening a new scene
