Database Trouble

I spent the day yesterday going through all of my 3rd party content and creating products for them. There were a lot of them. I did this by selecting the base folder for the products content in the Content Manager and doing "Create Product From" on it. Once I was done creating the Products I started to go through the Products to configure them for Smart Content.

As I was going throught them I immediately found one that had created the Product but did not include any content in it. I walked checked all of the newly created Products and there were quite a few that had failed to include the Content in the Product.

I tried redoing some of them but none of them worked. It also seemed to be the ones that I had done in the last couple of hours of my work.

So, I decided that the database was probably corrupted. I did an export of the userdata, reset the database and then did an import. None of the 3rd party changes remained, even the ones that were correct prior to the database reset are missing now. It looks like the ones that were working properly were actually ones that I had created in the past and had just renamed in yesterdays session. Now they have all reverted back to the old names.

... and even after the database reset, I still can't create any new products. They are always empty.

  • I may have figured out why the contentwas not being included. I have my content on a Shared Drive and have a link from my D: drive to the shared R: drive. It looks like the implementation of "Create Product From" does not handle soft links properly. If I change the Content Manger location to point to the Shared Drive directly I can add products.

Unfortunately this will cause other problems.
