Textures for Dystopia Destinations: Hyperion Bar

Hello,

This is an older item I purchased years ago when Poser was my tool of choice. I am now using DAZ Studio. I apologize if this was covered in a different thread. If so, can someone point me in that direction? I could not find another reference to this item.

When I load the 'Bar Hyperion.crz' there are very few textures. How do I get the old textures to show up in DAZ? Although an all white bar is interesting and may have a place in a different image, I need the classic look of the bar.

Thank you in advance for your time.

  • checked https://www.daz3d.com/dystopia-destinations-hyperion-bar and on the product it says:

    • Note that extensive use of procedural texturing means this product requires Poser 5 or above. To use the product in DAZ|Studio or Poser 4 and below, a separate set of textures would be required.
  • I don't know how to do textures so that piece of advice doesn't help me much. Thank you for trying. I guess the better question would be, is there any advice out there on how to somehow get the existing textures usable for DAZ Studio?

  • There used to be (as in, ten or more years ago) a set of Hyperion freebies that would set up materials, lights, textures etc. for early versions of DAZ|Studio. Does anyone know where they cound be found nowadays, and whether they'll actually work in a modern version of D|S? Not sure who made it, it might have been one of the old Dystopia crew.

Note that "ten or more years ago" is long before actual procedural materials for D|S became common, so it might be possible now to set up Iray materials that are very close to the original Poser procedurals. It'll mean a total-tear-down-and-rebuild job, though.

  • Thank you for that input. I guess I need to learn texturing. I've only started into the realm of fine tuning morphs. I admit to being intimidated by those of you who can texture and create the characters and morph from scratch. Those things seem so much more advanced than my average art pieces.

Suggestions on the Hyperion Bar textures are welcome. Suggestions on where to start with textures for DAZ Studio are also welcome.

It was made by Questor and included a remap of the objects IIRC. I don't think it's available anymore.

I would try using shaders on "empty" surfaces.

  • Thank you, Leana. I will look into that.

I've experimented a little bit with some of Will Timmin's free shaders but I am really surprised no one has put together a texture add-on for DS for this yet :(

    *edit*

aside from that freebe that was from before my time here

  • I would pay for an updated textures pack for this item.

This is a really old product, released in 2007. At that time DS was still in v1 or maybe early v2, and most content creators supported only Poser. Sometimes if you were you were very lucky some nice DS user would release DS materials as a freebie add-on, as Questor did for this set, but usually you had to create them yourself.

Selling add-ons for items that old probably wouldn't generate much revenue, content creators are more likely to support recent content.

I'm probably one of the only people out there who would pay for it. But I totally would.

This is a great set so I totally understand

    I would pay as well!

I'm sure a lot of people already have this product and many might not use it much because of the no-texture thing.

Even though it is an older product, I bet there would be enough sales for the PA to feel they didn't waste their time...

Who knows, maybe a fresh texture set in the store might even bring it to people's attention who might not have noticed it yet. Maybe spark some new sales of the original set.

I’d love a modern sci-fi bar. There are a few sold here and elsewhere but they all seem long in the tooth.

Some of my recreational writing took place in a sci-fi setting. The bar was never 'new' but it was shiny in places. I'd totally invest in more bars. One can simply never have enough. :D

Dare I ask how bad it is in DS?

Well, I have the Space Dock product by PerspectX. I made it 300% bigger so it could fit larger ships. Then I decided to add the bar on the 2nd level of the space dock. It actually doesn't look bad. The 2nd level is largely grays and whites, the bar loads in largely white with a few textures that managed to cling to it from Poser to DAZ Studio. I kind of like it in this setting. If I can learn to texture, I can use it elsewhere too.

Disclaimer .. the render was only 7% done when I paused it using native to the Space Dock product lights. All I did was put the bar in place.

The Hyperion bar is pretty sweet and has lots of nice props. It works great in DS, the only issue being those animated textures it has for Poser. They don't work in DS at all some some surfaces are textureless until someone makes one.

    Hello @kaotkbliss,

I am not familiar with the term 'animated textures'. Could you explain that? I'm on a learning roll here. :)

    Thank you

I've never seen or heard of it before but I think it was mentioned somewhere with this product. I know it's a poser only thing and I'm guessing that it does just what the name says, so in still shots you would only be able to see like the first frame of the animation, but in an animated scene the texture would change. (just a wild guess as I've never had poser)

  • Interesting! Thanks, man.
