Purchased a product and wanted to download with DIM, and while my email is showing in DIM correctly, DIM won't accept my password when I enter it.

Must match your DAZ 3D log in exactly.

It matches exactly. But tell me Jaderail can I unzip the product directly to the my library folder?

Yes, and no. Some work needs done. I would UnZip to a temp folder because some of the Zips have a Content folder. You then move/merge the folders below it to your content folder.

    Will do and report. Thanks.

I copied folder to content folder but nothing happened. Then I copied individual folders to similar folders, but the item shows up as materials only. This is the product I installed:

    http://www.daz3d.com/daz-lamb

By the way where do I copy the manifest.dsx file?

Ah, that is a Poser Format item. You will need to use Content Library Tab and look in Poser Formats> My Library> Figures to find the model. You then use the DS mat files to adjust for a DS textured render.

You can ignore the manifest.dsx file -- that's what tells DIM where to install things. Incidentally, you can copy the zips you download from your Product Library into DIM's download folder and use DIM in offline mode to install them.

Download to the root folder or to one of the five folder inside DIM, because I put zip in the root folder and nothing happened?

The default download location for DIM is C:\Users\Public\Documents\DAZ 3D\InstallManager\Downloads (you can change that in the DIM settings) -- put the downloaded zips there and DIM can install them.

Nice tip. Never knew that one. I wonder how to fix their DIM.

Thanks fixmypcmike, but there is no download folder inside DIM. I added the downloads folder and then copied the zip folder to that but the DIM didn't recognize anything.

Does the e-mail address have any unusual characters in it? As I (vaguely) recall there are certain characters that DIM doesn't like in the e-mail field...not sure if this was fixed.

That was fixed, not sure why it's not letting you log in.

Let's forget about the DIM. Can you show me how to copy the files inside the zip to their proper places. There are three folders inside the content folder: animals, read me, and runtime. Please show me, guide me where to copy these folders. I see there are already similar folders in DS, and I'm just worried that the newer files might overwrite the existing data.

Yes, you would merge those folders with the others you see that have the same names (in the "My Library" folder). If you're not sure how to merge folders, what OS are you using?

    Win 7.

OK. You can select the folders and drag-drop (or copy-paste) them directly to My Library. You'll get a message that pops up to confirm if you want to Merge...click Yes, and you should be all set.

Thank you Scott-Livingston that worked, but it also took me back to square one: the product loads as materials only. Can you please check this page and tell me if this product is full character or just materials: http://www.daz3d.com/daz-lamb

Where are you looking? The lamb figure itself should appear under Poser Formats in the Content Library. Sometimes DAZ Studio Formats contain just the materials.

Edited to add: If that is the problem, then I understand your confusion! Older, pre-Genesis content typically is found in Poser Formats, but the DAZ Studio materials for them may be in either Poser Formats or DAZ Studio Formats. That has tripped me up several times...

(I missed Jaderail's previous post...quoted above...maybe you overlooked it also?)

No I didn't overlook Jaderail's instructions but there's nothing in poser.

Did you install it to My Library or My DAZ 3D Library? Check them both. If its not in either then try re-importing your metadata

This is a capture of the download page: there are three files I only downloaded the zip. Could it be the other two need to be installed?

The folders were copy-merged to : C:\Users\Joseph\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library. What do you mean by metadata?

OK, copying the folder to the "MY" Daz library folder did the trick. Now the character can be found under the Poser format. Phew! A whole day running after a lamb. Now I understand fully the parable of the lost sheep. Thanks Frank and all other super heroes for your help. One last question: is there a method to this madness? Is it safe to install to both my library and my daz 3d library to cover the field, so to speak?

Until DIM was introduced, it was all in "My Library." Apparently DIM works best if it uses its own directory, so they added a second one ("My DAZ 3D Library") for DIM users.

Typically "My Library" is used if you're installing manually, and "My DAZ 3D Library" is the default install location if you're using DIM. The trick is, if you use both locations, you have to make sure DAZ Studio is aware that content is in both of those locations. Instructions on doing that are here: https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/entries/23624648-Adding-Content-installed-by-Install-Manager-to-DAZ-Studio-or-Poser

Ultimately, you should only install each product to one location...that will work if DAZ knows it's a content directory, and assuming you're looking in the right place in the software. It's up to you how you want to organize your content... Personally I have DIM install everything to "My DAZ 3D Library," and when I need to install something manually (because I got it elsewhere, or it's not in DIM yet) I install to "My Library." But I don't have anything installed in both places.

Thank you Scott-Livingston, very good to know. Have a great weekend.
  • NO! Let's not forget about DIM. Why the hey doesn't it accept my legitimate and correct password? It obviously recognizes my email address as it it reprints it in the address field. I don't want a workarould for downloading files.

This is a rather old thread.

Are you sure the remembered email is correct? Remebering it from a previous atempt to log in doesn't prove that, so check for hard to spot typos. If it is correct you may need to open a support ticket https://www.daz3d.com/help/help-contact-us (you will probably need to click the Sign In button at top-right of the ZenDesk page, then it won't ask for your email again or require a captcha).
