My obj files are silver color (Kind of like a pewter object) when I import them into DAZ.

I'm still a newbie and the solution is probably easy. But I'm not having any luck putting color on a OBJ file.

Does the .obj have a material? If you select it and look in Surfaces, do you see a material listed? If so, it could be that there's no associated .mtl file to tell DS what color the materials are. Some apps don't create them.
and is it UV mapped to take a texture?
Once you have imported the OBJ file Daz Studio assignes the DAZ default Shader with default Material settings to it. To change that in DazStudio first select the object in the scene and then open the Surfaces pane. There you can change the color or the specularity in common saied the 'shininess' of your object.
Have a look at the settings of "Glossiness", "Specular Color" and "Specular Strength". You can have different settings on various parts but it depends on if there are more than one so called Surface Groups. If your object dosnt have some Daz Studio creates a 'Default' surface for you, but you can edit / create them in the Geometry Editor. If you plan to render your scene in iRay instead of the oldschool 3Delight you also need to change the DAZ Default Shader to something else, while you get more realistic images and lightning with iRay renders it gets more complex with the material settings of the various shaders available - this is a science in itself and as a beginner, in this case you propably want to purchase some iRay shader presets first.
