More than one model in a scene

Hi All
This may be a strange question to ask so i will try and make sense as much as i can.
Which is better to have wrt (file size, speed in opening a scene or navigating around the scene)
IF i want to create several stills with two or more character for a scene but want to keep the placement of the models in one position/pose and then use same models and create another pose with said models, is it best to dublicate the models in the same saved scene and put them apart (little groups of models ) and create poses with the duplicated models. So i keep all the models with the various poses save in one file.
OR save one scene with the one pose and then use same models save as another scene and create another poses in this saved as scene?
OR is there a way to save two or more models once you have them setup for the scene their body positions to use again in future? LIke a morph or pose script or something.
I hope i make sense.

Im kind of a noob but maybe using the timeline? just rendering one frame at a time.
No not what i want. I am not making an animation.
It may not be what the timeline was designed for, and I never would have come up with it myself, but I think that actually is the most efficient method for storing the same models in a bunch of different poses. The file size is much smaller than either duplicated models in one scene file or multiple scene files, and switching between frames is much faster than opening a new file or even navigating within a large scene.
yeah I meant you use the timeline, just dont worry about the animation and render the single frames you need, so you will have only one file, much smaller, and no need to worry about continuity on sequence.
Ok i see what you guys mean. THx
Hope it helped!
Yeah, I also would suggest to use the timeline to create different poses, blend some frames in between or edit/fix them.
There are some pitfalls with DS and using the timeline.
