My daz studio still crashes during renders. Not all the tiime, but randomly.

DAZStudio.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "D:\DAZ 3D\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\MY LIBRARY\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\libs\iray\libneuray.dll" at 0033:0000000095E6C0CE, mi_neuray_factory()+4039486 byte(s)

Is the error I Get. Any ideas?

Just checked the log file, here's what I have to comment:

    1. You are rendering with both CPU and GPU devices, it seems that the GPU run out of memory, but CPU tried to continue, but Iray released resources before CPU was aware of it, BAM, access v#$%
      • Your card has 8 Gb, enough for complex scenes, but textures consume a lot of memory, just the HDRI image alone consumes 500Mb(it is a 16K), if you are just using it for the lighting, reduce it to 512x256, if you are using it as a backdrop you might consider reducing it a little.
      • Also the rest of the textures must be reduced in size, for example, eyelashes are 2048x2048 pixels, consuming 12Mb of memory.
      • In the video game industry they load the appropriate texture size acording the level of detail needed, ranging from 128x128 pixels to 1024x1024.
    2. Log file reports formula errors and bogus assets.
    3. Also seems daz connect tries to delete some content, at least from the database: "2018-02-23 21:36:49.240 WARNING: cloud\dzcloudtasknotifier.cpp(178): Query (DELETE FROM "content" WHERE "id" IN ()) failed with exception: ERROR:  syntax error at or near ")" LINE 1: DELETE FROM "content" WHERE "id" IN ()"

    HTH

    Hi:

Thanks for your help. Interesting info.

I have had no problem with rendering in iray though same characters same stuff until this latest version of studio... And I've rendered more complex scenes than the ones which are crashing, so I'm not clear why memory would be an issue since it was all working ok before.

But thanks for your advice. I will try to avoid using HDRI which is a shame.

I still get the errors even when removing the HDRI. I think something else is going on. I've rendered some pretty complex scenes in the past.

It's out of memory which winds up causing an access violation. Do you have more fibre mesh hair in the scene? Have you increased the subD levels in the viewport & and render for various items? Have you increased the size of the render inself?

Try decrease the size of the render to HD from a higher level and see if it crashes. Or try optimizer to be configured for Memory rather than Speed. Those are the two easiest ways to prove or not it's an out of memory for that particular scene problem rather than an actual DAZ Studio bug.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look into those.

Also, try disabling temporarily the CPU as render device, also, after a DS crash might be necessary to restart the system just in case the GPU is no getting reset.

I am going to continue to experiment. I am currently trying upping its virtual memory and see what happens. The machine has 64 gb and should be honestly able to handle two figures and a background. If not Studio should warn you your machine is not sufficient to render a specific scene.
