Transfer to a new PC?

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

Well, I finally did it - I went ahead and bought a new PC. (i7-4770 with 16gb of fast ram), so I figure I should hopefully finally be able to make some nice renders (and learn how to further snazz them up in photoshop).

The question is - how do I transfer my Daz installation across. I have enough stuff installed that it will be a hassle to reinstall it all, can I just install Daz on the new PC and then copy my library folder across? Will that work?

If there is a document written on this, can someone please point me to it?

Thanks,
Brian.

For the content, just copy over your content folder, no need to reinstall. You will need to install DS and any plugins on the new computer, and set your content directories on the new machine.

If you use custom categories, you'll want to do "Content DB Maintenance > Export User Data" before copying over your content folders. Then on the new machine, "Content DB Maintenance > Re-Import Metadata" will restore your custom categories.

I'm in a different position, my computer blew up (literally!) and I replaced just about everything in it and kept the old hard drive with my content directories still intact as a secondary drive. This was back around January/February time. After reinstalling everything I tried to import my content including a lot of my own custom work but couldn't get Studio to recognise it and gave up as had lots of stuff going on. Now I'd like to get back on with my work and am stumped as to how to get studio to import my content :(

I didn't have chance to export my database but have the old drive still with the now defunct windows partition on it as well as my Poser/Daz Studio work and I just installed the latest version of Studio as well as the installer (that's another story lol!) I have imported the content directory into Studio but none of the content works even though it shows up?

If anyone has any idea of how I can get my stuff back I'd really appreciate it!

    Thank you,
    ~Angela~

What do you mean by its not working - does it give any error messages?

Hi Richard, thanks for the help, just tried again to load one of my mane models and it says "Some assets needed to load the file were missing. The content may not work as expected. The following files could not be found: / data/DAZ 3D/DAZ Horse 2/Base"

It says the same thing for all of my Daz content as well, really not sure what is going on?

This is what happens when I try to load Genesis from my old drive too?

Make sure the Data folder from your old set up is in the root of a DS content directory (that is, it is in the actual folder you see as the main entry, not in a subfolder).
