Bah! Humbug! I'm just getting into Genesis 1 and now they're making it obsolete?!?!?!?!

FIE ON DAZ! FIE! (angry face)

I won't be "upgrading" this round. Grr...

Vinyl -> CD -> MP3, buy the same music over and over again.

Gen4 -> Gen5 -> Gen6, buy the same assets over and over again.

    Fehhhhhhhhh!

    Rant over.

..boy howdy, I hear you on that. After all I laid out from my meager salary (including building a new system) to stay as current as I can, this is like a boot to the gut. Since yesterday the only new releases in the store have all been Genesis2/Vicky6 related.

    ...meanwhile...

    Bryce is still 32 bit

Hexagon hasn't been updated for over five years.and is about as stable as an overloaded container ship in heavy seas.

We still do not have "open ended" cloth dynamics in Daz Studio.

What really chafes my hide about this is the one really nice feature of the Genesis concept - it's versatility - is being limited with G2 becoming Gender specific (will that go further to model specific - e.g. Genesis2Kid, Genesis2Toon...etc?). On top of this, all the original Genesis expansions, like the body shapes, morphs, and plugins are not compatible with G2, and the updates must be purchased AGAIN!

Sorry, but save for props, vehicles, and scenery sets I won't be purchasing much else from the store here anymore. Looks like Marvelous Designer2 and Blender will be getting a lot more use.

This is one of the times I wouldn't have minded a little "Daz Soon" occurring.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven of "money grab". Feh. (feh face)

Heh, THIS is cool as well:
    http://greyscalegorilla.com/blog/2012/06/more-c4d-car-battle-tests/

A Dynamics simulation in Cinema 4D.

"Here is the last week of Car Battle test renders. The one above is our first official Car Battle with a real winner. The winner wasn’t chosen at the beginning. Only after the scene was baked out did we know who would be the last car still on his feet. All the cars are driven purely by dynamic motors and a ton of Xpresso that adds logic to the cars so that they don’t get stuck. The next step is to make different style cars that have different drive properties and have them battle out. I really want to give each car a number and name on their materials as well. We hope to have some tutorials on this coming soon as well. In the mean time, hope they are at least fun to watch. "

The "Camera Rig and Roller Coaster Test" video is hilarious because the guy was making the car's sound effects with his mouth as it went along X'D

    Brrrrr... Vrooom! XD
Was cool to watch though. Especially when it made the jump. No hand-positoned anything on these - all automated and driven by dynamics.

Coffee and sausage in me, so it's content installation time! Rendo, Daz, and the remaining XFrog plants get done next.

Then it's time to render something! I have no idea what, yet, but..something. Maybe an elasmasoarus in floral patterns, or glass, or some jewel. Not sure. (confused face)

I might go out for lunch, otherwise, it's supposed to hit 102f today and I'm NOT motivated to take a long bus trip in the heat! Yikes!

You don't have to. Besides, if you run DIM now, you will get the BASE Genesis 2 morph FOR FREE. And it can co-exist with your current Genesis 1.

...but it's pretty much useless unless you dump a lot more money into it for the morphs and Vicky6 stuff. And then it's only "Supermodel Vicky", Not Julie & Justin, not Steph, & David, or even Sadie & Sam. Heck, I rarely use Vicky5 by herself at all.

No, I ll be perfectly fine with "Genesis Classic".

While I am not thrilled by the gender separation myself, it just means I'll delegate her as "specialist" for some of those tricky situations involving extremely elaborate bending.

And here's a thread about how to bring over shapes from Genesis 1 to Genesis 2 Female.

Animated, M4 Beautiful Bends is what it says and the best bender in the Daz store imo

pounces like a Tiggr - beautiful bends looks pertee

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

    (very red face emote)

I was out getting some groceries and booze for tonight and I decided to get some BBQ for tomorrow (since the truck is closed Sunday and Monday). I decided to try their bbq chopped brisket sandwich for the first time and.. just O M G!

Super-tender tasty briskey chopped up with medium bbq sauce served between two nicely browned pieces of Texas Toast! This is better than the brisket sandwich I had at Stubbs, and Stubbs is one of Austins finest bbq restaurants.

There must be close to 3/4 pound of meat on this monster! (shock face) DInner will end up being very very small...

I could use a beer, but I swore off keeping beer at home (too many carbs) so it's diet Coke.. sigh.

The darn thing only cost $5, too. Amazing!

Ok, back to eating, I can't type and eat a messy sandwich at the same time or I'll be cleaning bbq sauce out of the keys...!

Kilometer long pike drop! Headshot, first cut render, IDL light, took 8 minutes to render.

Well for starters, your picture is just 770 x 1250.

When you crank it up to 2500 x something (16:9 ratio), rendering times increase and not always proportionally.

Second, oh... I'm not joking when I say that there's about gazillion verts on the scene.

My environment is a mix of high-resolution version of The Forest (from which I've killed every item not visible to the camera, which is okay, I intend the scene to take place at the edge of the forest; there's a reflective river in the middle of the scene) and Worldbase XT (I wanted the skies and ring of mountains, everything else has been culled from the scene). Toss in V6, fully clothed, with intense hair. Toss in couple of other figures and props. Have a mix of default DAZ surfaces, ubersurfaces, and SSS surfaces.

So, this is gonna take a while. But that's okay, I wasn't planning to do much today. And I have my tablet and laptop (and my SO's laptop) if I need faster action.

...yikes! I heard about The Forest, almost makes a Stonemason set seem like a primitive in comparison.

Reflectivity is always a killer because of all the ray bouncing it causes. I think PS1 even brought his 24 thread 48 GB monster to a crawl with a scene which was loaded with it.

...and heavily transmapped hair especially with US/SSS, will definitely put the brakes on things. Remember when I was trying to render the Mentha Piperata hair on my new system? Ended up I had to turn off the ray tracing to keep it from stalling.

Just don't add any fog effects like I had in my pic or your system may go China Syndrome. The difference in render times with and without the fog was something like 3 hrs and 25 min. Was going to use fog in another scene I'm working on that is 1,200 x 1,200 but decided to cheat and use a Jepe's SteamZ plane with the opacity turned down. Looks pretty good in the tests and doesn't slog the render down, especially since one of the characters has hair with some really complex transmaps.

Looking forward to the end results, sounds like it's going to be a very nice scene.

Well for some variable of "work". Yes they will import in DS, yes they render with some minor material fixes.. but some of the plans are hundreds of megabytes of texture and only for "hero" renders. One of the damn trees is nearly a gigabyte!!! You'll not making a forest of that unless you're running bloody Maya or Houdini. (bug eyed face)

That said, my lame tests indicate they're kick ass. But you'll need to work on them if you want more than a few. (ugh face)

Maybe in a few days I'll post some renders, right now the dang elasmasoarus is taking my time. It makes a killer kilometer long pike but the skin surface needs work, I smell SSS here and that makes render times painful. And I need an ocean backdrop, so that's tomorrows work.

That said, I'm quite happy with the shders I have, and I feel like I'm learning again! (huge grin)

..well there's always reducing the LOD as well, however I usually use the Ecomantics billboard trees for stuff in the far background. Would be lovely to have a real oak that Leela's little Annika could climb.

...ran a test render of my latest. Still have a few minor details I need to work on but looking very good.. Like the Mentha in the Big City pic I did back in April, this is one I've been wanting to do for a while but didn't have the horespower to render.

Those who have PC forum access check out the June Monthly Challenge thread there to see the last work I created. Can't post it here or elsewhere until July as it is now a judged challenge with prizes (one of which I hope to snag).

Is that the old [discontinued] Elasmosaurus that used to be on DAZ or something else? Looks familiar...
