iray render: longer if you increase the max time?

I was doing a render with the default render max time set to 7200. The render I was doing was very noisy so I cranked it up substantially to 38 hours..just pulled the slider over ... with the thought it would render long enough to gewt rid of the noise ... 

What did happen, however, is that the render is much slower than previously. After 1hr 40 minutes it is at 11%. Previously, it shut down render at two hours but was closer to 40% ... its not going to get there.

although at 12% it looks better than at 2 hours for the other render. the render seems random often, sometimes slow, faster, cleaner, whatever, even using exact same light set, same texture, maybe just changing pose.

Are you sure the time was the only setting changed? Slower but better sounds like Rendering Quality.

yep .. just the time. render quality is at 1.00

i can only do CPU rendering. 

what is interesting, i have a render cooking right now, same lighting, single figure, and it is at 77% at 10 minutes. max render time 7200. I have no clue
