I don't like one particular change in DS 4.6 Pro.

Ok, been working on a scene for hours now and it's a VERY good thing I saved my work. In past versions of DS, I could work on a character, pose them, load up an environment, etc. Then if I wanted a pre-made character I saved (and I always save them as Scene files), all I had to do is load it up and I have my Pre-made character ready to go and added to the current scene.

Not so in DS 4.6 Pro. Now if I load a different scene to ADD to the current scene I have, the new overwrites my old scene, not only completely replacing it but getting rid all of my hard work on the scene I wanted to keep! I DON'T want that. I want to add new scenes to my scene I am working on. Can someone please help me?

Have you tried File -> Merge? Or alternatively, right-click on the scene you want to add and select merge.

I use Merge All the time in DS4+ works fine.

I use merge too when I want to load different light settings I've saved.

...I save all my characters in default load pose as Scene Subsets and merge them into whatever scene I am working on. I also save scene and lighting setups that get repeated use this way so I don't have to reconstruct them each time.

A lot of times my workflow is simply load the setting, merge the desired light set, characters, arrange/pose items/characters and adjust lighting as needed, then save to the scenes folder for final tweaking and rendering.

I do the same Kyoto Kid. I create my character then save them in the default pose as a Scene.

Didn't even know about Merge. In the past, all I did was just double click the scene I wanted to add and BAM it was added.

Thanks for the help and quick replies. :)

...I like using the Scene Subsets folder for characters and partial works/reusable sets, as it leaves the main Scenes folder less cluttered.

Again, that is just personal preference.

What KK meant is that a Scene Subset (new item in File>Save as) is merged by default, the way Sceens were in older versions, while a Scene is now opened by default. Edit: ah well, cross-posted.

I do the same thing. I tend to leave the scenes folder for full scenes, and subsets for components that wouldn't make up a scene in and of themselves.

It should be telling you "do you want to save" or some such, letting you know its closing your file in favor of the new one. When that happens, just CANCEL and then right click the icon you are trying to add to the scene and select "merge"

And yes, I havent yet discovered the benefit of this method. I liked it the way it was. but then Im old and crabby.

Oh, btw, I LOVE your avatar.

Good to see your still around Vaskania. :)

Yea, I took a break when I got back into gaming and needed a fresh pair of eyeballs for things. I was losing my mojo and drive to work on anything.

...did the same here. Now with my new workstation running full steam, looking to break ties with the game group as I need more time not only to work on projects, but learn a lot of the different processes/tools available like texturing and SSS as well as get into clothing design and modelling.

I stopped at D.S. 2.0 for a lot of reasons.

...2.3 was the most stable version of that era. I still have it as some content with really old shaders don't fare well in later versions.

Oh yeah, for a while, I didn't like the Merge change myself, because as you said, I like things that BAM things right in a scene when I need them without any kind of File Save/Open dance.

But a side from that, I actually LOVE the upgrade! :)
