Please explain to me exactly what this means

This concerns the item Genesis Generation X. I read that:

After turning Genesis into one of the legacy figures with the according shape package, you can now give them back all the characters, shapes, and expressions that you have for the original figure.

With GenX, you can transfer all or selected morphs from a supported figure to Genesis.

And thanks to the auto follow feature of DAZ Studio, all clothing will also fit these morphs.

What exactly does this mean?

Does it mean for example that skins previously created exclusively for M4, such as this one, will now be useable on Genesis?

And does it also mean that dynamic garments previously created exclusively for M4 & V4 -- which I understand cannot be put on Genesis even if you have the M4/V4 shapes for Genesis -- can finally be put on Genesis this time?

One more thing. When they say that "If you purchased Gen4, you can get GenX for a low upgrade price", what do they refer to in mentioning Gen 4? Do they mean the original Generation 4 figures, such as M4 and V4? Or do they mean the M4/V4 shapes for Genesis?

I'd be most grateful if anyone could help. Thanks!

You do not need GenX to use a V4/M4 skin texture on Genesis. Genesis supports the V4/M4 UV sets and the textures will work on any Genesis shape.

What GenX does is transform the custom morphs (V4/M4 morph++, ....) used by a V4/M4 character to create head and body shapes for V4/M4 character using Genesis morphs, so you can have the same character shape in Genesis.

Most V4/M4 clothes will work on Genesis without GenX using autofit. V4/M4 shoes don't work very well on Genesis, and GenX does nothing to improve that.

    1) M4 skins already work on Genesis. GenX allows you to transfer the morphs (shape) as well.

    2) That's referring to conforming clothing. Dynamic clothing for M4/V4 can be used on Genesis, but it takes a little extra work -- there are threads describing the process.

    3) Gen4Genesis was the predecessor to GenX, which was sold at Renderosity. If you bought that program, you can get the upgrade version.

The base Genesis figure can use textures for M4, V4 and K4 right out of the box, and other figures if you buy the matching Shapes For Genesis. The shapes — morphs — that go along with these character textures can only be transferred to Genesis using GenX.

Actually, many M4/V4 dynamic clothes can be used on a Genesis figure if you're careful and it isn't too different from the base shape. Sometimes you will need to use an animated drape and/or tweak various joints to get a good fit, but it is possible. It won't always be easy.

This was an earlier version of GenX available at another store. If you didn't buy it then, you can safely ignore this bit. Edit: Whups, typed too slow... :smirk:
