What is optix and it’s relationship with DS?

I was following a tutorial on using DS and Iray when the person doing the tutorial mentioned turning on OptiX for faster rendering. I’m not familiar with optix and how it relates to DS and Iray. Has anyone ever heard of this I can’t find it in the render settings in DS.

    It's a feature within Iray - ilook under the Advanced tab of the Render Settings tab (between the Photoreal devices and Interactive devices.  If memory serves it only wrks with one of them - but I can't recall which.  There was also a comment made a while back that there was an issue about it working in currnet nVidia hardware/software.
