...yeah save for the Song of Spring and Garden Party, none of the other clothing (alleged or otherwise) really thrills me enough to drop 61$ on the Pro bundle even if it does include the naughty bits. Shoot, it doesn't even have Skin Tone MATs which were included in the old V4.2 Pro Bundle.
...and what is it with female shoes, I mean why does everything need to have spike heels?
With all this talk of converting V4 textures to .duf for Genesis 2, I just want to post a link to a thread I started yesterday listing which Genesis 1 textures need to be converted to Genesis 2. Just in case someone finds it useful...

It's best to use V4 as the figure when converting material settings to .duf as Genesis doesn't have, and so will lose settings for, the eye surface.
good advice. Thanks Richard!

Heh, I didn't think of it - Spooky, I think, pointed it out to me.
I was so busy trying to figure out how the new G2 surfaces worked and what they all meant, I didn't notice this little snippet. I don't export anything back out of D|S, but it is frequently very handy to have surfaces grouped the way they were. Something else DAZ "didn't think we'd need" in the new figure...?
I think she meant they don't directly ask "what do you want?", but rather they look at what people are complaining about, submitting support tickets about, etc. And while I personally prefer the single figure and am happy with the range of characters I can get out of it, I've heard a lot of customers complaining that they don't find Genesis 1 morphs suitably masculine or feminine. While I disagree, I know that I personally don't have a keen enough eye for visual detail to be able to say that they're wrong.
I disagree as well. I'm an artist (and by artist, I mean I draw people by hand with a pencil), I have a trained eye. To me, all the men in the 5th generation look 100% authentic male to me. Broad shoulders, big muscles, distinctly masculine shape, etc (especially M5 and Freak 5). I don't get where these people are getting the idea Genesis Morphs don't look suitably male or female. And it frankly surprises me their have been a lot of complaints on that.
It started the day Genesis was released, when the Basic Male and Basic Female morphs really were lacking in masculinity and femininity. I remember that was one of the most common complaints back then. Despite all the advances in the last couple of years, the meme refuses to die.

Oh, the basic shapes. And who on Earth uses the basic shapes as their default go-to morphs? I don't think they were ever meant to be anything more than just subtle morphs. Amazing how people see one little flaw (and I don't even see it as a flaw, just a few additional morphs) and pick it apart.
Talk about making the rest of the community, who thoroughly enjoyed Genesis, lose out because of nit pickers.
I agree that Genesis(1) male/female morphs are very male/female. That isn't the issue as much as when one pushes those morphs at times, at what point do they start to break down. Many people are not worried about making very large breasted women, or pushing the shapes to extremes in various fashions and still have them look realistic, but for those that are interested in that, the extra polygons in that area in G2F will prove to be indispensable. If someone isn't going to emphasize other areas that the extra detail and flow has been put in, same thing. It isn't that Genesis(1) can't do m/f etc.. it's how far before it starts to break and how sensitive are we to it breaking when it does.
I still remember people saying with Poser 1 that the problems with bend, etc.. were not a problem because 'it is easy enough to fix in post.' But for me, it was useless other then as a toy. This isn't anywhere near that, and that's not what I am suggesting, but it points out that different people have different goals and tolerances for things.
I do agree that for most people here, V6 is probably not enough of an improvement to make a large investment, including me. I will be using Genesis1 myself for most of my work for the foreseeable future.
I agree, it drove me nuts when people kept referring to Genesis as "the gray blob" when all they had to do was turn ONE DIAL. Turn more than one and you'll be amazed at what Genesis can be.
Genesis 2 is a very good figure that I would still recommend, but I also had no problems at all with how clothing fit male and female shapes on the original Genesis, nor with how male and female shapes looked. If we really got this figure split over a few creators complaining about slight texture distortion across a figure's chest or "not being inspired by Genesis' asexual appearance", then DAZ listened to the wrong crowd.
...I agree. Seems the nit picky details outweighed the overall versatility of the Genesis concept. I have very little issue with chest size in female characters then again, the central characters in my story are teens with very petite physiques which would cause the breast mesh of Vicky X ore the Generic Genesis Female to collapse and distort when dialed down beyond a certain point.
Genesis and Young Teens5 made it so one could do a totally flat chested preteen girl (8 - 11 years old) which we haven't had since the Gen3 days, and insure clothing fit properly.
Annika (below) is wearing the JeanZ for V4, Teen Ashley Sneakers, and Sadie Fae top, none of which is made specifically for Gen 5.
Yep, the original Genesis still has a lot of life in it.
Well, as I wrote in another post, I guess there's a reason they're not calling it an 'Elite Texture' this time around :D

Are you kidding me? Really? They couldn't have photoshoped some of that out to make it look more natural?
Come now, DAZ. That's just unacceptable laziness...
Well I see it as motivation to create my own rather then buy when I see something like that. If it's easier to make something from scratch then fix it, much less pay for it and then fix it...
Yes, well. Despite having personal issues of all sorts with even the concept of Genesis2. I'll try to keep this to real issues as expressing my opinion means immediate withdrawal.
I'm having issue trying to put G1 clothes on G2. As in most of the time after selecting fit to, and getting the menu for auto fit, and selecting G1, and the type of clothes, it almost instantly pops the auto fit menu back up and says the clothes are unsupported. And unsupported is not a functional choice; as in nothing fits when it is selected.
Also about the V4 options I'm reading about here, I take it that is part of the V6 starter pack, not the genesis 2 essentials pack?
I occasionally see the same thing with the window popping back up. It seems to start the process and then the window pops up with Unsupported as my only choice. So far I've just clicked Accept and everything seems to come out ok. Other times it doesn't work.
I've also had issues where the obvious choice didn't always work as expected. For example doing a bikini bottom I selected pants and it came out sticking halfway into the figure. Deleting it and selecting bodysuit worked.
For the V4 options you'll need to purchase the V4 for GF2 product from Mallen Lane. This will add V4 as a choice for the autofit as well as adding the V4 UV map to the list available for GF2.
Edit to add: The V4 for GF2 pack, and the GF2 Morph pack are not part of any of the V6 packages and will need to be purchased seperately
Try it with the magus clothes for G1.
But, I think it best if I just leave this be. The more I learn of it the more agitated I get.
This is what I got. Seems to work OK in daz studio, but the carrara try....... LOL
I understand the agitation believe me.
Still, here is the Magus outfit on basic G2F.
It was another case of things not being what you might think they are. For the shorts, leggings and collar I had to choose Full Body for the Item Type. The Jacket was a Shirt type and the boots were Footwear though the did popup the second window, just clicking accept allowed everything to fit.
I added the Aldora hair and a default pose for G2F and rendered with no lights from the perspective view. Not very artistic but you can see it works.
Still, I tend to agree with a lot of folks. Unless I have a render that is just crying out for something that G2F brings to the table (better expressions/poses for example) then I don't see any point in investing to much money or energy in her yet.
I did purchase the V4 for GF2 product along with the morph pack and I feel that that combined with the stuff I've already got is more than sufficient for now. For most of what I'm doing G1 is perfectly fine.
I can't get the laggings to fit.
I'll run it through again, but I really don't have much for Genesis, got masses for V4. But if I had $11 to spare I'd put gas in my jeep.
I will point out that V5's dynamic dresses from optitex fit o.o running an animation with it and G2 was the first thing I did with G2.
Haven't really tried in carrara much, I'm really trying not to rupture a vein over this. But that animation looked better in carrara then studio ;) much less poke through; well none in carrara.
Leggings were full body suit type as well.
I don't use anything but DS so I can't help with other apps.
For the collar I used shirt, for the coat I used full body, for the leggings and shorts I used pants. and shoes for shoes myself. Was actually the first time I ever even tried the autofit myself. I keep procrastinating about converting my V4 stuff to genesis lol. Seems like too much of a pain in the ass, maybe if I just start doing 2 a day might not be so bad.
Unsupported happen when you try to fit an already loaded item. You need select first G2F next load the clothes. If you first load the cloth to fit later get unsupported. Of course, it is an annoying behavoir.
I should perhaps put in a help request about this, but my last one concerning this did not yield a satisfactory result. So I had to fix the problem by doing what I did before the release of the DIM. This time however, the problem is compounded by an added one.
My main problem is to do with the installation process using the DIM. As the product I am having this problem with is the Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials Pack, I'm posting it here in case there is someone that knows how to fix it without uninstalling the product. I have my doubts on this, because when I first acquired the DIM, it was recommended to me to create my own path for installing files through the DIM. I won't get into who that person was that advised this, but I will say that this person was wrong! While most of the files I installed to that path are OK, some are not. The models load into the scene as a series of blocks that roughly approximate the shape of the model. I am unable to find any way to fix this.
The previous files I had this problem with, had to be uninstalled and downloaded manually to be installed using the old BitRock Installers that were attached to them. My reason for doing this is because I could not get the person that was trying to help me to understand the problem fully. All of the suggestions and advice I received concerning it were useless to solve the problem. So instead of trying to solve it through the Help Desk, I chose to abandon that approach and go with something I was sure would work. If I could get a description of the default path to set for installing products through the DIM, I would continue to use the DIM. AS it stands at this time, I am loathe to use the DIM, because some files don't work as expected when I install them through the DIM as it is now setup on my computer.
Now we come to the latest occurrence of the problem and I will need to include here the other problem that compounds it. The Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials is now doing what the previous products described above were doing. Yes I have already uninstalled it, and with good reason. To keep my head from exploding with frustration!
I installed it though the DIM and then tried to load the figure into the scene. Like the earlier products that gave me grief, this one loaded as a series of blocks put together to approximate the rough shape of a human. As it was loading I got a message saying that certain files were missing and that the product would not work as expected. How right that message was!
Now the second problem:
I went to see what was in the readme and found it is the readme for the Sub-Surface Shader Base! It appears there is no Readme for the figure at all. If one does exist, it is not included anywhere either online or in the pack for access using the product documentation. This is the first time I have ever receive anything from DAZ 3D that did not have reliable documentation included ! The SSS ReadMe is in no way helpful with how the Gen 2 Female is supposed to work, aside from what it is for to begin with.
Well as I said I have already uninstalled the product from it's DIM installed path. I downloaded the file manually, and found that it is a .zip. Not so surprising, as I have known that DAZ 3D is trying to convert to that, and are phasing out the old BitRock installers. Even so, it seems I still have a problem after extracting the .zip. There is no ReadMe, No instruction on which path to use for the installation of the various files in the pack, and the only documentation included is for the SSS, just as it was before. So here I sit with an extracted .zip, and no way to know where it belongs in my content library.
If anybody here in this thread can provide some good info concerning this, I would greatly appreciate the help.

That doesn't work. I always have to select clothing then select fit to. There is something I absolutely refuse to have on my comp, so the fit to on loading does not work.
You should have DIM set to isntall to the same location as you point the Bitrock installers to - which should also be the, or a, folder selected as a Poser and DAZ Studio content directory in DS. You can select a folder in DS by right-clicking on the Poser Formats or DAZ Studio Formats heading in the Content Library pane, you can select a folder in DIM by clicking the gear icon at top-right, going to the Installation tab, and clicking the + button.
...I've had similar issues with the new Daz zips. I don't use the DIM as My workstation is a standalone. In spite of what everyone has told me I cannot for the life of me get it to install files that I transfer over via USB stick form the notebook I Download to. So I have to perform manual installs of everything.
No readmes is a real pain. Even Freebies have readmes (well most of the good freebie creators provide them). So I'm supposed to guess what goes in the Poser runtime, what goes in the Daz4 Library and when things don't work right have to delete everything from the folders and start over again. With manual installs of content from Rendo, RDNA, Xurge, etc..., I've had zero issues as everything is nicely spelled out in the readme file.

Thanks for the info Richard, this has been a trying time for my patience, which I normally have a lions share of. I'll have a look at what you have told me, and see how well it works. If the problem is fixed I'll re work all the files I have installed so far through the DIM, then I can go to work getting all my old content setup though the DIM.
