Problem installing V4 Elite textures (Carrara?)

I purchased a big V4 bundle in the March Madness sale. When I installed it, 3 of the components, V4 Elite textures (Amy, Lana, and Maya) wouldn't install. The error message each time was

Could not find install application for: Carrara 8.5;8;7.2;7

Do I need to buy Carrara to use or install these? The only one I could find was 8.5 pro at about $50 for the pro bundle, on sale.

  • Yes, those particular files need Carrara installed but often the Carrara files are mere duplicates of DAZ Studio files including in the same mods and therefore not needed. Check the product page(s) for those textures to check compatibility; if it lists carrarra only ask for a refund. If it is compatible with DAZ as well as Carrara (as some products i just bought myself are), just try running those textures anyway. if they work, you can ignore and even safely delete the carrara files (make sure the DAZ fikles exist and work first though0.

If you download and install through DIM and you don't have Carrara installed (same applies to Bryce) then you can click on the cog icon at the top-right corner of the DIM window, select the "Downloads" tab and deselect Carrara, then you won't download those files for software that you don't use.

ETA: For Amy, Lana and Maya in DAZ Studio you need to download and install two files for each: the main installer and the one labelled StudioCF. The main file has all the textures and morphs (plus Poser materials) and the StudioCF has DAZ Studio Materials.

Thanks, Spacewarper7 and Melanie. I should have mentioned that I was using DIM to install. These are Daz compatible, but as Melanie pointed out, I had never set the option to filter out Carrera content, so it did not know what to do with the Carrera files. I'm not sure if deselecting Carrara in DIM options will help, unless I can maybe remove them and then download them again. In DIM, they are stuck in the middle tab, "Ready to Install". I don't know if there is a way to remove them from there and get them back into the first tab, for the download queue (after deselecting Carrera in the options window).

Maybe I can junth manually install them.

  • Oh, just be sure NOT to delete the DAZ compat

I just click on them and then select hide. DIM won't install hiden files.

If you go to the folder where DIM downloads the files to (if you're not sure where it is, you can find it in the Downloads settings) and find the Carrara .zip install file and its matching .dsx file (identical name except the file extension) then you can delete both and next time you open DIM they will have gone from the "Ready to Install" list. If you are not 100% sure which ones they are, I'd suggest move them somewhere (e.g. desktop) and check DIM is happy - if not you can move them back in and restart DIM.

For products with multiple download files like these, the filename includes a number to tell them apart. If you hover the mouse over the entry in DIM "Ready to Install" you should see something ike "Package number" or "Package id" (I can't remember exactly what it is called, but something like that) which is a number. The filenames to (re)move take the form IM000xxxxx-nn_NameOfTheProduct.zip and .dsx - where xxxxx is the product id from the store page and nn is that Package Number thing.

Anyway, once the pairs of .zip/.dsx have been removed then the deselection of Carrare should take effect and DIM shouldn't download them again.
