A Gripe About The Secret Daily Freebie Promotion For V6 Pro Bundle
Before I get into the gripe let me just say that in general the DAZ bundles are a great value and I have no objection to DAZ marketing their products in that way. In fact I prefer to purchase content in bundles because of the superior value that usually affords. Also I have purchased the G2 morph bundle and V4 to G2 product and feel that these products together with the free G2 Essentials deliver value for a reasonable price.
That said, the daily freebie promotion for the V6 pro Bundle, while obviously intended to reward early adopters and create an urgency to buy, is repulsive to my desire to buy the product. In the past I have purchased new release DAZ bundles that I was not highly interested in, just to take advantage of the initial promotional value. Usually I thought about it for a few days and bought towards the end of the promo period. I was a reluctant buyer that overcame that reluctance by using a reasonable amount of time to consider the purchase without being penalized.
The secret daily freebie promotion destroys the psychological motivation for this kind of value-driven purchasing by reluctant buyers, by (a) decreasing the incentive to buy as each day passes, and (b) not allowing purchasers to see the full promotional package at the time of sale. The second factor (b) makes the purchase feel more like gambling than investing in content. Personally, I find that distasteful and completely unnecessary if the objective is to reward early adopters. The first factor (a) makes reluctant buyers less likely to buy towards the end of the promo period, because it feels like most of the value opportunity is already passed.
The only buyers who should find daily secret freebie promotions acceptable are those who are not at all reluctant to buy, and would have bought the initial promotion without the daily secret freebie anyway. Perhaps a few people who are extremely insecure about missing a bargain might be motivated by fear of losing out on a daily freebie, but if such buyers are not eager to buy anyway, they will inevitably feel either rushed and manipulated (if they buy early) or cheated (if they buy later).
The 30-day DAZ return policy may take some of the sting out of these daily secret freebie ("DSF") promotions, but that is missing the point. I intend to keep what I buy, and because I have limited money and time to invest in this endeavor, must be discriminating in the products I choose to buy or download for free. Because I find the DSF promotion repulsive, it swings the balance away from purchasing.
If the V6 introduction proves disappointing, I hope DAZ will consider that its use of the DSF promotion may have been a factor in suppressing sales, and avoid such promotions in the future.

agreed, and in general I dislike this trend of "buy thing you dont want and get access to a discount on this selection of items!"
I prefer a straight up, "this category is on sale" sale.
