Daz Studio 4.X Pro will not install. Stuck on Installing Management Service

Knight22179Knight22179 Posts: 1,195

As the title says. The installation will not go past the "Installing Management Service" point no matter how long I wait. Then when I click cancel and try and re-install, I get an error message. I tried re-downloading DS.x Pro again and I get the same result. Worse, I get the same exact result if I try to go back and install a previous version of DS. Which means, I can't use the program at all because it won't install! >.<

I tried using Daz Install Manager too and it installs the program, but it's not showing up in my Start>Program Files, just the Daz Install Manager and no desktop icon. Then I tried re-installing DS again (which got rid of the error message), but as always it gets stuck on installing Management Service!

Can someone please help me?

What security software are you using? Have you, in the past, run as administrator (that is right-clicked and selected Run as Administrator)? If so that may have made the folder inaccessible.

I'm using Maleware Bites and SpyBot. And no, not that I remember. I don't recall ever trying to install DS by right clicking and running as admininstrator.

Good news is, I managed to re-install Daz Studio 4.7. Bad news is, I still can't update to Daz Studio 4.x Pro (or DS 4.9 or DS 4.8) because I get the same results as above. Which is really weird becasue I should be able to, but I can't. There's nothing wrong with the DS 4.7 installer because it worked. But for some reason, I still can't update DS to 4.x, not without getting the same exact results as above.

It's the PostgreSQL install that is being problematic, 4.7 may not run that (though I'm fairly sure it will use PostgreSQL). Can you manually remove the C:Program Files/Daz 3D/DazStudio4/cms/DAZPostgresqlCMS_p.3.4.exe file that is causing the error, then try reinstalling?

Well, Daz Studio 4.7 is working just fine. Unfortunately, yesterday I was using DS 4.9, but even that installer won't work anymore so it's a good thing I kept the installer for DS 4.7.

I looked for the file where you said it would be but it's not even there. Here's a screenshot of what is there. >.<

I'm not sure, but I think that's the installer for Valentina (the database engine used before PostgreSQL). Right-click on the cms folder, select Properties, and take a screen shot of the Security tab, then do the same for another folder - say Plug ins. Do they look the same?

Alright, I did as you instructed (see first screenshot on the far left). Then I did it again for the plugins folder (see second screenshot). Other than a change in words "cms to Plugins", they do look the same. But while doing this, I noticed something else. I found a folder named PostgreSQL (see third scan) and I made a sceenshot of what is inside (see far right scan).

Try highlighting TrustedInstaller in the list of Group or user names in the Security tab - I think that's what is relevant.

And then what do I do after that?

Compare the settings - though they may have the Specal permissions checked in which case you'd have to click the Advanced button. Just trying to see if that's why the fiel can't be written when all of the othrs apparently can be.

Alright, I did as you instructed. Special Permissions is checked. I also did a scan of the Advanced Tab and nothing is checked in the list.

    What do I do now?

  • Richard HaseltineRichard Haseltine Posts: 102,865

Did you have TrustedInstaller selected when you clicked the Advanced button?

  • Knight22179Knight22179 Posts: 1,195

    Yes, I did.

If you select a different folder and go through the same steps is anything checked? it is for me, so I suspect that is the root of your problem.

  • Knight22179Knight22179 Posts: 1,195

Okay, I followed the same directions for several different folders and no matter which one I checked, there is nothing checked off in the list. Not a single one.

Ah, I see you are in the Effective permissions tab rather than the Permissions tab.In any event your dialogue is different from mine, in WIndows 10, so direct comparison isn't that useful.

Can you remove the folder (don't delete, just move it) and, assuming you can, try rerunning the installer?

  • Knight22179Knight22179 Posts: 1,195

Sorry about that, I probably should have mentioned I'm still using Windows 7. Anyways, I did as you instructed and managed to move the folder. Then I ran the DS 4.x installer again.

At first, it got stuck where it normally gets stuck at, but I thought I'd wait for a minute. I'm sure glad I did because the installer finished it's job and now I can run Daz Studio 4.10 (or 4.X, whichever). SO IT WORKED! Thank you very much Richard! As usual, you've been a great help and I'm glad to see your still around helping those who need it.

As a sidenote, I placed the "cms" folder back where it was originally just in case Daz Studio needs it there for some reason.

I think it may be a relic - I certainly didn't have the folder in my application folder (which made it a bit harder to offer advice).

  • Knight22179Knight22179 Posts: 1,195

Ahhh. Think it's safe to delete it then?

  • Richard HaseltineRichard Haseltine Posts: 102,865

I'd leave it somewhere else for a while, just to make sure everything was working, before finally deleting it.

Examine your database folder location in your Studio preferences/folder locations before deleting that specific CMS folder, to be sure that Studio isn't expecting something to be there.

Unless you've changed the default paths, the CMS folder is not normally in \Program Files\DAZ3D\DAZStudio4 folder. It's in \users\username\appdata\roaming\daz3d\... and I don't remember the full pathway offhand. (I also have Windows 7, but am not at that computer at the moment.)

/Users/YOU/AppData/Roaming/Daz 3D/cms/ContentCluster. But th screenshot earlier in the thread shows only one executable file in the cms folder and it has the installer icon, otherwise I wouldn't have been so cavalier.

Oh, OK. Sorry, I missed that.
