Problem with characters' hairlines

Hi,

I've just come on a disturbing problem with my characters. When I load a character and a hair to go with it, in Iray render I've the result in attached files, some sort of blue hairlines. I didn't modify the characters or the hairs, and the render settings are by default. The ressources used are Michael 8, Victoria 8, Axel Hair and Voss Hair.

Have you ever experience this?

It seems to come up only in the viewport window with Iray, the Iray renders are fine.

Edit: Actually, it goes fine with Photoreal Iray render, but with Interactive Iray render it all goes south, like the attached files.

Some update. When I load a default genesis 8 male figure it's all... pink. See attached file. I've reinstalled Daz Studio and erased all Daz data that I could find to start from scratch and when I reload a genesis 8 male figure it looks the same. With other figure like female or genesis 3, it's not pink but I have flaws on hairlines.

I apply the Daz Studio default shader in "Shader > DS Defaults > dzDefault" and the figure looks better but not how it should look. Then I reapply the default base material for genesis 8 male and it got all pink again.

I've got to have a settings or a shader wrong somewhere. It's weird the reinstall didn't restore all those things by default. I'm starting to lose my mind.

    I keep looking.

I can't speak to the hair issue, unfortunately.

As for the pink textures, I suspect you may be using the wrong materials. I'm pretty certain you're using the wrong shader; dzDefault is for 3Delight, not Iray, and your renders look like Iray. You would need Iray Uber for Iray, and that would give you a relatively null/neutral Iray base, not necessarily with all the required settings for skin.

That said, I think G8M loads with default Iray textures and shader, so I'm not certain why he would be quite that pink. Although ... I'm not entirely sure that's the right base texture set, either. Those textures don't look like the standard G8M base textures, although it's difficult to tell with all the pink.

Are you using Smart Content to pick out the texture set? I ask because if you're using Smart Content, I have no idea how to tell the difference between 3Delight and Iray settings/materials there, but if you're using Content Library, it may be workable. (Although not at the moment, because I'm nowhere near that computer right now.)

I use the Content Library mainly. I load Genesis 8 Basic Male, all materials with Iray are load automatically with it, and when render with Interactive mode it go with the pink skin.

I've try using Shader Presets > Iray > DAZ Uber > !Iray Uber Base but nothing changes.

Ah, OK. Well, unfortunately, I don't know what you can do in that case.

I never use interactive, myself; so I'm not sure why that's happening.

  • I have the same issue with the skull caps in the interactive render.  It shows up more on certain skin tones.  The same hair does not have the issue on Genesis 2 (even when using the iRay shader).  It does have the issue on both Genesis 8 and Genesis 3.  I have tried different surface settings on the skull and face texture without any luck.  I thought it would be related to translucency.

    I have attached a few examples (Gen8, Gen3, Gen2).

You might want to check if the hair has a "use this first to set the base" file with the hair (often where the materials are). I have a couple of different hairs that have such a program, which seems to get the texture from the head and apply it to the "cap" from which the hair sprouts.

  • Thanks for the tip.  I checked and I did not see a "start here" type of script or material in the Voss Hair for Genesis 8.

Fortunately it does not show up in final renders.
