How do you use the LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer?

I bought and installed the LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer. Started DAZ. Loaded a scene with a character (G1) who had a LAMH fur coat. Looked for the Catalyzer in the window panes. Nothing. Went through the content library. Nothing either (unless I overlooked something). Went through the readme files hoping to find a readme that would explain how to use the thing. Still nothing.

Could anyone explain to me how to use the thing, please? Thanks.

The Catalyzer only works with specifically prepared LAMH objects. These are currently limited to Alessandro_AM's own animals.

Catalyzer is only useful if you own a). Look at My Hair and b). at least one of Alessandro_AM's animals that have LAMH presets.

Catalyzer is its own tab/window. Open it up, tweak the hair settings, then press the render button in blue (which on my display is so far down that I can't actually read it and just clicked on it blindly becaused it was the same color as the render button on the render settings tab). It will prompt you in kind of the same way that the regular render button will, to either render to a file or to a new window, and then render out the figure as usual. Please note that the animal hair will NOT be visible in the normal Iray preview mode, nor I assume in the normal Iray render-to-file-or-window mode. Only Catalyzer can render the animal with the hair.

I bought Wolf 2.0 and the Catalyzer in the late stages of March Madness, and it seemed to work fine, within the parameters described above. I have not attempted an animal with actual scenery or humans in frame yet though-just a wolf-only test render.

There are only a few of AM animals that actually have LAMH Catalyst presets and the regular LAMH presets don't work with the LAMH Catalyst products.

Wish I realized this before I bought it. It was too long ago to get a refund, unfortunately.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I had similar questions. I bought the  LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer and Wolf 2.0, downloaded the zip for the free LAMH player and used the .exe to install it. I only see the uninstaller and I don't have the menu option to create “Attach ‘Look at my Hair’ in the menu. I do see the presets on Wolf 2.0, but it returns an error when I try and use it. I normally use DazCentral (64-bit) and DAZ Studio 4.21 (64-bit) and do not use DIM at all. All my daz content is installed on my E drive (graphics) which is an SSD drive. I have the Lamh catalyzer showing up in installed plugins, but not the lamh player.

What am I missing with the installer? Can it be used if you have Daz in a different location than the default location? It didn't give me an option on where to install it when I ran the .exe and the installer just shows it under the start menu.

I was also looking at buying Skunk by AM which is on sale today, but if I can't get the free Lamh player to work, it will not be worth it. =/

  • It may have gone to the wrong place - the plug-in itself has to go to the plug-ins folder in the main application folder, so the installer needs to know where that is. Check Help>About Installed Plugins to see if it is being found at all; if it is what colour is the plug icon?

It's not in the about installed plugins (although LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer is). I tried moving the installer to the plugin directory, but that just puts the uninstall .dat and uninstall .exe in the plugin directory. I don't see any .dlls or any other files that might be used. The installer does not ask where daz is located on my system..

  • Not the installer, the .dll file that the installer places

First of all I would say that I have only ever installed these plugins using Daz Install Manager, not the .exe installers. However I think the end result should be the same:

For Catalyzer, did you enter your Serial Number? If not, you can Find it here: https://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/serialnumbers

The Catalyzer installer should have placed the following folders/files in your Program Files/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4 wherever that is on your PC:

    /docs/Plugins/LAMH2Iray Catalyzer/44935_lamh-2-iray-catalyzer.pdf
    /docs/Plugins/LAMH2Iray Catalyzer/catalyzer-popup2.jpg
    /docs/Plugins/LAMH2Iray Catalyzer/CatalyzerPane.jpg
    /docs/Plugins/LAMH2Iray Catalyzer/LAMH2Iray Catalyzer.dsx
    /docs/Plugins/LAMH2Iray Catalyzer/LAMH2IrayCatalyzerInlineHelp.dsx
    /docs/Plugins/LAMH2Iray Catalyzer/reigstration.jpg
    /plugins/LAMH2IrayCatalyzerAM/LAMH2IrayCatalyzerLogo.png
    /plugins/LAMH2IrayCatalyzerPlugin.dll

    Are they all there?

The corresponding files for LAMH Player are:

    /docs/Plugins/LAMH Player/LAMH Player.dsx
    /plugins/initialize.dzime
    /plugins/lookatmyhairAM/lamh_icon.png
    /plugins/lookatmyhairAM/LAMH_Resources.zip
    /plugins/lookatmyhairAM/resources/arrow_down.png
    /plugins/lookatmyhairAM/resources/arrow_up.png
    /plugins/lookatmyhairAM/resources/LAMH resources.zip
    /plugins/lookatmyhairAM/resources/logo_icon.png
    /plugins/lamhPlayerPlugin.64.dll

    Are they all there too?

By the way, if you run the .exe installers selecting the "Customize Installation" option, you will get a panel just before the installation starts which shows you exactly where it thinks Daz Studio is located, which may or may not be where yours is.

ETA: It's turned 00:40 here, so I'm about to turn in. I won't be back in the forum for at least 12 hours but if you have any more questions about what I posted then I'll try and drop back tomorrow.

hmm, it does not ever show where it will be installed. I see only the location for the start menu.

The  LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer shows up fine, I just can't find the LAMH player (which I think is required for the Catalyzer)? I think the installer isn't actually installing anything except the uninstall files. I'm doing a search on my computer for anything created today.

Ok, I installed the DIM and was able to install the product through that, but could not find a way to install using the installer that came with it for manual install. I did have to uninstall the Catalyzer from Daz connect and reinstall it using DIM to get it not to crash. I originally was able to install that one with Daz connect, but maybe it wasn't installed correctly? Now wolf 2.0 and fox work! I might pick up the skunk, but I don't see a Catalyzer option for it.

For anyone that finds this post in a search, it does seem it needs to be installed using DIM and the download for zip with the .exe will not work on Windows 10 (as far as I can tell).

If you installed it, you could find the folders C:\Users\Whatever\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio. or My Document on your windows computer.

  • It comes with a .pdf user guide. {also available in your product library}

After installing the serial key in D/S, restart the program. {help > about plugins ....} Then it becomes a Windows pane/tab available the same as all the other tabs.

Not all of AM's critters require it for rendering. The presets that do are normally clearly identified.

Actually it doesn't let me enter a serial key in D/S, but it still works. It installed on my E drive correctly when I used the DIM (both Catalyzer and Look at my hair Player are installed in same plugin directory). It didn't install anything with the manual installer (the .exe downloaded from zip section). The plugins were installed in a different location than I'd thought they would be installed, but it works now.

    Thanks everyone for your help.

  • Interesting, maybe DIM puts in the serial keys? I installed manually.

At any rate, you have it working now and that's what matters :-)

Acutally it's on the next page after the second one you posted - it's a kind of confirmation page for the options you picked before the install starts.

However, since you have it working through DIM, that's not important any more. Glad to hear you are on track now.

Thank you all for your input. I was pulling my hair out trying to render Wolf 2 in Iray. I have owned the product for ages, both Daz and Poser versions and in Daz only rendered in 3DL and loved the results. After a recent PC upgrade I can render in Iray and have spent all evening trying to render a scene using Wolf 2 without success until I found this thread and downloaded LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer. All I need to do now is remember to use the render button in the LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer tab rather than Ctrl + R. First render is in progress 95% done.
