Weirdness with old Poser models...

I'm using DS 4.6.3.52 Pro Edition (64-bit), and I've stumbled across some strangeness with some older Poser models (content by Vanishing Point, specifically): when I manipulate the bones of a figure (opening doors or hatches, etc), the mesh just stretches and bends like taffy. For the longest time I stayed with DS 2.3 and no such problems arose.

Just trying to determine if there's a fix for it.

I'm not certain what is causing the behaviour that you are describing, Ninja_G33k, but I'm pretty certain it has nothing to do with DAZ Studio 4.6 perse. If it is an older Poser format model it should be using legacy rigging that is still supported by even newer versions of DAZ Studio. You used the term "figure" when referring to the model. Did you convert it to weight mapping by any chance? If so, that might explain why you are experiencing the odd behaviour.

The difference is in how Studio (now) and Poser handle groups when importing the object file.  Poser cuts the mesh by the groups and Studio does not.

Well, that's a trifle inconvenient, and seems to be going to depths into which Yours Truly The Dim-Witted End User has yet to swim. Is there any sort of workaround?

Yes, there's a workaround, but be warned it can get a bit fiddly. You'll need Hexagon (if you don't already have a 3D modelling program).

First find your object file (it'll be in the Runtime/Geometries folder in your content location).

In Hexagon, import the object file. You'll see a dialog with lots of options; make sure they're all NOT selected.

Now export the object back into the same location, overwriting the existing file. Again, you'll see a dialog with lots of options. Same process, make sure they're not selected.

That should fix it, and you should now be able to load the item into D|S as normal.

  • Huzzah! It worked! Thanks much! :-D
