Olaf and the Giant Chicken, a Mock Epic Poem: Part One

    Olaf, shamed and driven forth
    Started hiking further North
    Seeking a mead-hall brightly lit
Where he could drink and throw a fit
Forced from village, with great dislike
    Caused by rampaging kilometer-long pike
Olaf carried but his axe and his gold
Everything else had ended up sold
Massive debts he had to pay
To all the villagers blown away.

Rumors they came to Olafs ears
Of villagers with some horrible fears
An evil beast with razor claw
That clucked as it would fill it maw
    On peasants, nobles, warriors brave
It seemed that nothing they tried would save
The victims from becoming a dinner
Olaf thought "I could be the winner"
So onward through the snow he went
On fame and fortune, all thought was bent.

    Olaf chased the rumors around
The village was nowhere to be found
He searched all Finland, Norway too
But there was little he could do
Then word came to him of shield-maiden fair
Who had gotten a powerful scare
From beaked monster in village gone
    So Olaf got himself along
Thinking shield-maiden could lead the way
And Olaf could then win the day.

To deepest Russia did Olaf go
    Braving bear and deepening snow
To fabled Vadistok, city of pearl
Did Olaf travel to find the girl
Ask he did, and sought her there
But she had vanished into thin air
"She headed West", one bar-man said
And then he sadly shook his head
"She's seeking vengeance, some do say,
She's quick with a sword, I'd stay away."

    ..to be continued..

hey wow great. Does OLaf meet Ivan Skavisnky Skovar?

...not until after he meets Igor Stravinsky.

    epic needz epic music :o)

I did get some sleep. But I need to keep in mind that I cannot have that much caffeine in one day. Why do I keep forgetting that I cannot drink coffee in the late afternoon.

    Blech, general whining:

Its beautiful outside and I get to sit in front of the stupid computer all day and stare at it through the window. I might get to go out for lunch, if I'm lucky, but it would only be for a walk to/from the sub shop. This is the real boring part of the job - I tweak 2-3 numbers, run a quick inaccurate test here to make sure I didn't screw anything up, then email the binaries to QA and.. sit.. for.. a.. long.. time.. waiting to hear how much closer I am to the Magic Performance And Behavior Numbers. (blank face)

The only GOOD thing is that I'm working on the next Olaf drop! Other than that, today is going to be a total bust, personal-stuff-wise.

I did! I gutted ten kilos of strawberries yesterday, with help from my friends. We made jam, a pie, and frozen some for the winter. :D

    FUNNNNNN!

And we had to be careful so "production losses" (read: eaten strawberries) wouldn't endanger our output. :D

Sigh.. no overtime on this contract, just straight time. And no extra money, I get comp time so I can take a few hours off here and there. It's OK, I took next Friday off and now I'll be able to use my comp hours instead of unpaid leave.. so fair enough.

It IS a critical thing - we have 2 production lines shut down (one here, one in China) because of this issue.. so I get to be the hero while the original programmer on this product gets called a borderline criminally incompetent boob! Well, the production manager called him something else but TOS prevents me from saying it here.. (red face)

Pecan delight! A can of pecans, almonds, and cashews! Expensive, but omg so goooooooooddddd!

Olaf and the Giant Chicken, a Mock Epic Poem: Part Two

    Olaf stocked up on supplies
Watching the weather with wary eyes
    Westward then would Olaf head
To see where bright shield-maiden led
He bought a tent, and shoes for snow
No telling how far he'd have to go
So he set forth on foot, alone
The wind did howl and scream and moan
But Olaf was willing to take a lickin'
To beat up on a giant chicken.

    Westward ho did Olaf travel
This mystery he hoped to unravel
    Rumors Olaf did hear many
But the best was from some ninny
    Rubbing snow into his hair
This clod declaimed to empty air
"I saw a woman with shield so bright
Fire in her eyes, gave me a fright
Just two days past when she came through
I'd run like heck if I were you."

"Aha!", thought Olaf, "I think I'm near!"
So forth he set, without much fear
On feet he put the shoes for snow
Becasue the stuff did thicker grow
A good thing this, for never fail
    It made apparent another trail
    Olafs heart began to race
Finally of shield-maiden there was a trace
    Olafs hopes began to quicken
Of battle with a giant chicken.

Next day at dawn did Olaf spy
A brilliant gliimer against the sky
On the horizon he saw a shape
With scale-mail shimmering like a drape
Olaf cried "Wait!" and started to run
But he had just barely begun
When on a snow-shoe he did trip
And fell right down into a dip
His pride did take a mighty blow
As he lay cursing in the snow.
