Hello All,
I have daz studio 4.5.1.6 pro version which I recently downloaded. I also downloaded new clothing and stuff for genesis. The new downloaded items are seen in content management directory but when I click on it, it is not loading to the figures.I had copied the my library thing to the contents folder. It loads but cant be used on posers. Any idea how to do it? Any useful suggestions would be appreciated.

If it's not throwing an error, make sure the thing you are trying to load is a model and not a material setting.

It is clothing material n when I tried to load another downloaded shader, it says, could not locate file 3duGenToonAmyLimbsSpec.jpg and then it asks me to locate it. I click on locate it and finds it in daz studio folder n content management folder but still it comes to the locate message

I'm not sure I understand. If you mean you can find the texture file, but DS can't, make sure that it has been installed correctly - it should be in \Runtime\Textures\Somefolder, where the Runtime folder is in the actual content directory (My Library, for example).

I have attached two screenshots for you. Basically what I am trying to say is whatever materials i downloaded i have put it under daz3d-studio-mylibrary -under the name unzips .When i tried to access these files on daz, it shows in content management but they r not getting loaded on to figures. some files show error like locate the file but some doesn't show any errors but it simply wouldn't load into the figures .. like morphs or clothing or accessories or character etc. In ss1 i was trying to load some morphs into the figure but it doesn't work. no errors but it simply wouldn't load. In the second one I was trying to load a cloak into the figure, again no errors but it wouldn't work. How do I make the materials that I downloaded load into new figures??That is my question

It is clear from your screenshots that your content directories are not set up correctly - you should not have a My Library folder isnide a content directory, as in your first image, not a Content folder. If you are unzipping the files to a folder inside your My Library (or whatever your content directory is called) folder then again that is wrong, the \Data and \Runtime folders need to merge with the ones already in the My Library folder if things are to work.

In the second screenshot, I'm pretty sure that Cape1 is a material setting for a cape, not a model in its own right.

Ohh ok so do i copy and paste the my library or runtime folder in each of the unzipped file to runtime of default daz my library? Also regarding the material thing , first I have to find model cape n load then try changing the cape? I am ew to daz so I was playing with whatever is there on genesis starter esentials..so any materials or mor[phs or anything wil not get loaded until it is a model? does model files have a specific file extension?

Yes, you need to merge the My Library from the zip with your My Library - if that's what you use, there's nothing special about the name of the folder as long as DAZ Studio knows to use it. The important thing is to have the Runtime and Data folders in the My Library folder itself*.

I'm not sure what the cape is - I don't see one in Starter Essentials. But I do think it's likely that you need to load the cape figure that preset goes with first. If items are in Poser format then models are .cr2, .hr2 or .pp2; unfortunately DS doesn't have separate file types, but you should see an overlay in the Content Library or Smart Content panes telling you what kind of file it is if you install using the DAZ Install Manager (if you manually install you can get the same effect, but you have to tell DS to reimport metadata to do so).

    ------------------------------
    * because content has to work on different machines, and even different operating systems, it uses what are called relative paths - just the location within the My Library or whatever folder - and it's your job to tell DAZ Studio where to start looking for the items.

I copied the new downloaded content files into daz3d my library genesis- i copied character files to character folder, poser files to poser folder etc.. But now whatever files genesis starter essentials were showing before even that is not shown.. I had the same problem when I first installed daz in Oct 2012 and I couldn't solve it all I could do was use the default materials in genesis starter essentials to make figures n none of the downloaded content could not be loaded . When I copied them to the corect folders in genesis, most of the genesis items never showed up.. same thing now too dunno what to do next uninstall n reinstall n keep it with basic genesis materials?/ that is very frustrating..

You just move the Content from inside the content folder in the zip... to My Library and MERGE.

Example: I will use .... to show UNDER floders.

    UNZIP Folder
    ..Content
    ....Data
    ....Presets
    ....Runtime

    That all goes into this..

    My Library
    ..Data
    ..Presets
    ..Runtime

You MERGE each data folder into one, so it holds all the Sub folders for all your Content. The Same for all folders.

    ..Content
    ....Data
    .......SOME folder V4
    ....Presets
    ......SOME folder V4

    Becomes part of this

    My Library
    ..Data
    ....SOME folder M4
    ....SOME folder V4
    ..Presets
    ....SOME folder M4
    ....SOME folder V4

All you want is to get the folders into the same PATH as they appear in the Installer or ZIP, but in YOUR main content folder that DAZ Studio is mapped too. I'm trying to think of away to SHOW this so it is easy for users to understand. I hope this helps just a little bit.

Since I had already unzipped all files to a folder named unzip n deleted the zip files, may be I have to zip them n try unzipping n select location while unzipping. But before doing that , I tried copying poser files to runtime manually- like chracter files to genesis-charcter folder, poser files to my library-genesis-people-genesis-poses folder etc.. it was showing in the content library tab but aftercopying my smart content went away. So I had to uninstall n reinstall daz. Still my smart content is not showing but I can load genesis starter essentials things frm cointents tab. But newly downloaded files which r copied still not loading on to the figure. I would zip up those files, while unzipping merge them withMY library
.My mylibrary in my documents has 2 folders-daz 3d and genesis.
Daz 3d folder has only scripts
    while genesis folder has
    --- aniblocks
    -animals
    ---camerapresets
    --runtime
    --people
    ---data
    --daz studio tutorials
    --light presets
    --shaderpresets
do i merge it with my library or do i merge it genesis??
    --scenes
    --props
    --uninstallers

I tried unzipping one file to my library, that unzipped one created a folder named runtime in my library- which contains libraries n textures folder- these folders contain pz2 files. Ain't these pz2 supposed to go to gensis-people-poses-pz2??
Sorry for being a pain in the neck but i still don't get it..

You already have a folder called 'runtime' in your My Library folder, so dropping the unzipped file directly into My Library could not create another one, you must have put it in a subefolder of My Library.

PZ2 files are for Poser, all Genesis and Genesis 2 pose files are in DUF format.

so cant i use pz2 files in daz?? Can I rname them to .duf n use?thought that would make them unstable..Is there any way that I can use pz2 file?

You can use them, but the Runtime folder must be directly under your content folder (e.g. My Library or My DAZ 3D Library). If there is another folder named "Content" inside your content folder and the Runtime folder is under that, DS won't be able to find the textures.

my runtime is under Genesis. There is no runtime under my library. My library have 2 folders named DAZ 3D and Genesis. daz 3d has only scripts.
Genesis folder has aniblocks, animals, camera presets, data daz studio tutorials, light presets, people props, runtime, scenes, shader presets and uninstallers. Is there anything wrong with my daz directory?
I get what u people are trying to say, I need to merge the folders with the existing folders . I did that n none of them would still work.
So if I were to download genesis fantasy starter bundle n to merge those folders would it work? Only the files from daz would work and not the user created ones? Thtas what my experience is till now and it is very frustrating. Does daz files work on poser pro?

Also could you please tell me what dsa, dsb and dsf files are and what do they do n in which folders should these go?

You can call your library folder whatever you like, My Library and My DAZ 3D Library are default names, but you can call them what you like. What you CAN'T do, is tell the Content Database Manager that your library folder is called 'My Library', when it has a folder underneath that called 'Genesis' which actualy holds the content.

You shoul move the contents of both Genesis AND DAZ 3D up one level. If I were you, I would start with the Genesis folder, select everything in it, and move it all up one level so that it is DIRECTLY in the My Library folder. Once you have done that, your Genesis content should be usable, assuming that you have the My Library folder correctly listed in the Content Directory Manager.

Does daz files work on poser pro?

Not directly, but they can be used in the latest versions of Poser using the DSON plugin, but lets get your DAZ Studio content sorted out first.

I have done that still nothing. I would try copying the entire thing to daz3d folder which is under my library n see if it works. If I download fantasy starter bundle for daz would it work?? or do I have to purchase the models for that too? Don't wanna spent money if something is not going to work. Daz people r doing a great thing by offering the software n the starter contents for free but I still have to get a grip with the loading contents thing n downloading n installing new contents.

There are two things that you will need to do, so that we can try to help you.

First of all, post a screenshot of your Content Directory Manager, showing the expanded listings for DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats. You can find it in Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory manager.

The next thing is a screenshot of your Content Library pane (NOT Smart Content) showing what is installed. Moving the content around to see if it works is not going to help. There is only one place that the content will work, and that is in the folder you have listed as a DAZ Studio Formats folder in the Content Directory manager.

The Fantasy Starter Bundle http://www.daz3d.com/fantasy-starter-bundle is for Michael 4 and Victoria 4, and if you don't have those figures, it is no use to you. You need to get your content folders sorted out first before you buy anything else.

I has read the install thraed for daz studio 4 n it was showing the default pass as user\daz 3d\Studio\mylibrary but for smreason my computer was choosing the default path as my library\daz 3d which dunno if its normal n I had to manually set it as suer\daz 3d\studio\mylibrary. Would it affect my content installation

The path for the old Bitrock installers was My Library.

The default path that the DIM uses is My DAZ 3D Library, so that is correct. Just make sure that the path to My DAZ 3D Library is listed as both DAZ Stduio AND Poser Formats folders in the COntent Directory Manager, and all should be well.

Your path should look something like these.

    C:\Users\(YOURNAME)\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library
    C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

I'm not sure what you have going on there. Are they custom libraries?

no when i asked daz to do a default one the path was documents\my library\daz 3d and genesis. under genesis i ahd all teh contents and under daz 3d onlys cripts. So ahd to change the path to documents\daz 3d\studio\mylibrary while isntalliing. Undre my libarry ia hve onlyscript n tehre is another my library under document s which ahs genesis and under genesis all contents.. soemthing is screwing up my default path for content installation. d du want em to uninstall n reinstall teh whole program onece again?

It's not A program issue, its the Content paths that are wrong. Your Best off IMHO just using the DIM to install all content to its one Default path, then just adding that path to DS4.6's Content Directory Manager paths. Here is a 100% fully working all DIM installed to Default path Version.
