Smart content problems

I am having problems with smart content. Sometimes it works but other times it does not. Also it does not show the Genesis 2 female or her outfit. What can I do to reset Smart content so it will show all the time?
Please do not say that I should use the regular content because I rather use both.

When you say sometimes it doesn't work, do you mean sometimes it's completely empty, or some items don't work when you click on them?
Completely empty
That probably means the CMS has stopped. If you restart it (On Windows, Start Menu > Programs > DAZ 3D > DAZ Content Management Service > Start DAZ Content Management Service), does it stay on or does it stop as soon as you launch DS?
I've got the same problem, that the smart content doesn't show at all. Yesterday I've decided to do what many of you have already done - delete all manually installed content and reinstall everything via Install Manager.
Some products had missing product images, so I then had the "amazing" idea of doing some content maintenance. If I remember right it was after resetting the content database that my Smart Content tab was completely empty. Well, I gave pretty much every option in the content maintenance menu a shot. I tried un-installing and re-installing everything once more via IM, but no use.
How can I check if the CMS stays on? I'm on a Mac.
Any idea what the substitute for Start Menu is using Windows 8? I've been having problems too and have tried everything else. After a crash where I had to do a hard reboot, I lost some categories, and then I tried to categorize something it either wouldn't take or crashed to desktop. 2 days later the products listing, categories and smart content disappeared. I've reinstalled DAZ 4.6 completely 3 times now. I even uninstalled and reinstalled my CMS twice. Things showed up, then disappeared again. Sent in a ticket on the 16th of June, added notes, so far nothing. Maybe someone here can help. At work now, so if you need screen prints, it'll have to wait till later.
Try going to the start screen (the one with all the tiles) and typing DAZ Content (just type with the tiles showing, there isn't box to type into) and Windows should show a list of matches, like typing into the box on the Windows 7 Start menu.
My problem is that I can reload the databases and everything works fine until I go to get something from my Poser Formats folder. When I go back to the Products folder the content isn't there anymore.
Also, anything that I purchase now and install using the Install manager doesn't show up in the Content Library at all - even after I reset, reimport, reinstall...
I have patches of hair missing now!
Having similar problems. At least since yesterday it seems.
Newly saved scenes aren't added to the Smart Content Tab (usually under "Unassigned"), and also aren't assigned a Content Type anymore.
Metadata doesn't seem to be properly imported, DAZ files aren't shown in the DAZ Content Library (the product directories' name is shown, but the directory is shown empty), no new content, and no new content in the Smart Content Tab, though Poser files are shown in their Poser directories.
All content previously added to the database is still properly shown.
Content Management Service is running. DAZ Studio installed at least 3 times now, including the Content Management Service. Old registry entries have been removed before reinstall.
Management Services' logs show several error messages:
Have you just recently started using the DIM? It isn't obvious, and DAZ doesn't do a good job of telling people, but by default the DIM doesn't install to the same place D|S is set by default to look in for content. You have to set D|S to look in the new location, then they should show up in Smart Content and you'll have the new location available in the Content Library.
I got mine to work: First, I copied the Content Management Database and relocated it) then I deleted to databases folder. Next, I deleted the DAZstudio4 folder then downloaded it again and installed it using the Install Manager. (I deleted the Install Manager also and reinstalled it). Then I went to the Content Manger Services folder and installed it (have to run as administrator). Lastly, I started up DAZ Studio and went to the Content Library Pane - up in the corner there's a button where there's the option Content DB Maintenance. I picked Re-Import Metadata. It all came back and works fine. There is only one new purchase that didn't show up it, otherwise all is good.
I think I had to do it a couple of times because the Help Center explanation is right on but a little confusing because I'm not not familiar with DAZ and how it operates in the background. (Although I know a little more now).
Just keep plugging away at it by doing those steps and it should work.
Good Luck!
I tried running that script for content manager many times and it does not fix a thing. It might show the folders but it does not show the content.
It shows folders in Smart Content but no files?
It shows folders in Smart Content but no files?
That is correct. If I try to refresh it after I select a folder, the folders go away.
Been using the 64 bit version. I just installed the 32 bit version and about to check that. Right now it does not work with the 64 bit version. Starting the 32 one now
The same CMS is used by both versions. Did you try restarting the CMS?
Okay will try that.
I'm having similar problems! My Smart Content has disappeared for the third time now. Re-importing the Meta Data fixed it before, but this time it's like there is no Meta Data. This has odcurred just since two things were done:
1. I used the bridge to move a model into Bryce that had shaders applied. I really don't think that would be the cause, but I'm no expert by a long shot, so I am reporting this as a possible cause.
2. The DIM was updated, and there were some updates for DS available in the DIM, which I did download and install.
Is the DIM connected to the CMS in a way that causes it to be turned off when certain updates are initiated? I am using DAZ Studio's latest version, 64bit, on Windows 7. What is the path to the CMS on my machine?
If your smart content is disappearing then your CMS is stopped.
So what do I do to get it started up again? Please, instruct me.
start bar/ all programs/DAZ 3D/DAZ Content Management Service/Start Content Management Service
Much appreciated! I got it fixed! Apparently after the restart you have to restart your computer to get the changes to enable. That's what I did, and it worked.
A Full close and Reboot is suggested for all Program Updates even if that is not stated as a need. MS and Windows both suggest this.
If the CMS was working but Fails for no reason this is often a Bad Database file. A Bad Database file can not be read by the CMS and if bad enough it can and will Close the CMS. The only fix for a Bad Database file is to Remove the Database and create a new one. None of the Content DB Maintenance menu options can or will fix a Bad Database file. Uninstalling DAZ Studio and Installing again will not fix the Database file. Uninstalling the CMS and Installing again will not fix the Database. Only removing it and creating a new one will work.
So what causes a bad database file to occur?
Many things.
The first is doing any installing with DAZ Studio Open and Running. This includes DIM or hand installs, never have DS running for installs.
A incomplete File getting Installed, this can happen from time to time, has even happened to me on my Broad Band connection.
Installing a Content update after the original file has been hand moved creating a cross link (double pointer to one file) in the DB.
The same content being installed to two different Content folders with both folders Mapped to DAZ Studio. See Above.
Read Write errors by the OS during Content Installs or MetaData Imports.
For a short list.
Database files are very touchy and a small error can become a large error very fast as new data is added. I highly suggest all users Backup there DB folder on a regular bases when it is working, and do a Content DB Maintenance menu Export User Data on a regular bases as well. One or the other will often fix the CMS issue up to the save point. Then full recovery becomes much faster.
