Victoria or genesis the big question
Back when i started with Daz, V4 was the girl for me, but then along came Genesis, with its androgynous base and i spent some time, and money, messing around with that. What i found was that while it was really good, it was, at least for me, really difficult to fit heels onto a female Genesis character. So for quite some time now i have ignored Genesis and devoted myself exclusively to V4.
My inbox is always a source of offers for fantastic special deals from Daz, most of which are too complex for me to even bother trying to decipher let alone try and take advantage of. So for the most part they are ignored. If i want something i general buy it from Daz or maybe Renderosity, or maybe share CG comes up trumps. Of late i have noticed that there seems to have been some advances with Genesis, there now being version2 and at the same time V4 seems to evolved too. i thought i would check out this evolution for myself. One thing i noticed, and this does involve adult themes, which i am quite aware are taboo, but as i am not posting any images i assume are acceptable here.
With V4 one has the ability to adjust her breasts, more specifically her nipples and areola which can be resized and so on. End of adult content right there. In Genesis, i noticed that this does not seem to be possible. Can anyone explain the advantages of moving away from V4 to these newer figures, whether body adjustments such as those i have mentioned are in fact possible and if so how, and is it possible for example, by using some auto fit tool, to use V4 clothing and more specifically heels on Genesis and V5 and V6 figures.
I am using DS 4.6.0.18 pro and both Genesis and V4 have full sets of body morphs installed.
Thank you so much

There are morph packs which give you the 'secondary sexual characteristics' options for both Genesis and Genesis 2. They also give a wide range of options for changing the shape and size of the figure, adding or removing weight where necessary, giving muscle definition and so on. The major advantage with Genesis figures is that you can apply morphs in varying degrees and blend them together more seamlessly than you could with V4.
Autofit is a hit and miss affair with Genesis, of that there is little doubt. Dresses and skirts often have ghost bones in earlier figures, making them difficult or impossible to translate effectively to the new figure. With that said, there is a lot of content which does transfer quite well, shoes notwithstanding, so you can expand her wardrobe that way. All said and done however, using specific Genesis content is always the best way to get good results as the shoes and dresses will be designed to fit the figure in the first place, giving you full control. They will also fully conform to the shape of Genesis no matter how crazy you go with the morph blending.
Genesis 2 is a different figure again to Genesis and doesn't have the largest wardrobe just yet. However, she's still compatible with a great number of Genesis clothing, including shoes, which was a pleasant surprise, and MallenLane has done an amazing job of providing an autofit solution for V4 clothing, so there's better support for older outfits if you want to keep using your existing content. You will, however, need to purchase the V4 shapes for Genesis 2 separately to have access to this autofit function, but if you have a lot of content for V4, it's really worth the asking price.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the information. Since reading i have had a little play with Gen2. I find that without going into huge depth shoes that are specifically made for G1 fail to fit. Other items of clothing do, so it seems that shoes still cause problems, the outfit used was the Onyx for Genesis, using the shoes from that set. Would the autofit you mention solve this problem. I did notice that the included Bree materials includes nipples, and that if i remove the limits they can be adjusted, i assume that other characters and morph packs will allow this and other body modifications to be made.
The basic question is this, to progress to G2 ail mean losing a fair amount of content, which will need to be replaced. Over and above all this, there will be a financial outlay to acquire the necessary morph packs that will allow the most comprehensive adjustments to the body of G2, and the V4 to shapes Gen2, which it seems is essential to allow the use of much of my existing V4 content.
Would you please point me to the morph packs that will provide the characteristics you mention at the outset.
Very grateful for your help

thank you so much, over and above the call of duty even for a dragon, maybe your Welsh, as am i...
well s/he is a red dragon y ddraig goch a ddyry cychwyn
I missed some steps for Poser, so I edited it.
Now life gets really confusing. I can say, because i learnt it by rote, that old favourite Llanfairpwllgwyng and so on, but i never learned to speak Welsh. I was born in South wales before ww2 ended, and moved to London once my parents were able to find somewhere to live, bomb damage made housing sparse. So i am Welsh, but i dont speak it.
Which makes the confusion i am starting to experience very similar to trying to decipher what you said chorale. Please some kind soul clarify things for me...
There has been a new G figure released called G2 which comes in both male and female flavours,
There is also a new V figure, V6, which i assume relates to the G2F base in much the same way that V5 relates to the G base, yes?
G2F appeared in my DIM for some reason so i installed it.
So while i might want to buy V6 i do not need to to do so, correct?
If i purchase the V4 to G2F then i can possibly use most of the content that i have for V4, including textures if i convert these to DUF files, correct?
So as a basic start up, all i need is G2F which i have and V4 for G2F correct?
That said, what would i gain by getting shape shift for G2F
And to add to the confusion which means i will probably say, as i have so often, why bother. How is it can i go to the store to check out V6 and see her priced at $27.96 a few minutes back, then revisit and find her at $19.58 reduced from $39.95, come on Daz!!
I am only adopted Welsh, went the opposite way to you, born in London, lbrought up in Kent, but I did marry a welshman. Now living in South Wales, the Valleys. To be more exact the area known as the Heads of the Valleys, almost 1200 ft above sea level.
I only know a little Welsh
y ddraig goch a ddyry cychwyn is actually very difficult to translate really, but an approximate translation is "the red dragon inspires action" It is the motto of Cardiff.
As regards Genesis 2 at the moment there is only genesis 2 female, which is free, comes with DS4,6 as Genesis 2 female starter essentials.
V6 is a character for G2F, but is not essential for her to work It is a character pack for G2F really.
What is more essential is the Morph packs for G2F available in a bundle http://www.daz3d.com/genesis-2-female-morphs-bundle
or you can buy the head and body morphs separately
Shape shift I gather is an extra morph pack, made by a PA, which gives even more versatility
That really clarifies things for me, why oh why cant Daz avoid making things so difficult to follow.
When i was a child i used to visit my mothers family for the whole of the school summer break. They lived between Ebbw vale and Brynmawr so possibly you know the area i refer to. We might have passed each other occasionally on the A40, hehe.
Im am going to check out those morphs, thank you so much for the information
I didn't start visiting the area till 1979. But yes I know the area, just a little to the east of us on the Heads of the Valley road.
Gosh ... and I'm near a Bryn Mawr (which isn't in Wales, but Philadelphia ... and no, I can't pronounce it.).
I also just finished two ebooks that take place in Wales ages ago when there were things like kings and knights and bards. Even though there was a pronunciation guide, I absolutely couldn't figure out how to pronounce names like Gruffydd, Gwynedd, Cadwaladr, Meilyr, and heaven forbid, Gwalchmai. I also stumble over Owain ... which shouldn't be THAT difficult, right?. At least Gwen is easy ... until we find out her name is actually Gwen with a lot of consonants and no vowels after the Gwen.
and then ... I ran across forvo.com. Whew. At least, I don't stumble over the names quite as badly. But, I still don't know how to pronounce Mawr. But then again, since this is Philadelphia, it's probably not pronounced as it should be anyway.
I think Welsh is about the only language where you can say an entire sentence without using a single vowel.
In the welsh alphabet W is a vowel depending on the word it is used in it can be short or long in pronunciation
short: as in "look", e.g., "cwm"
long: as in "fool", e.g., "mwg"
Y is also always used as a vowel with teh sound varying according to the word
short: as in "sit", e.g., "cyn" (clear sound)
short: as in "gun", e.g., "yn" (obscure sound)
long: as in "seen", e.g., "dyn" (clear sound)
Got a lot of help and ideas from this thread, and not just about the vagaries of the Welsh language. I have to say that using V4 for G2F might work pretty well as far as mats are concerned, and in the main, clothing transfers over quite well in what i have tried so far. HOWEVER!!!!
Fitting shoes from either V4 for heels or Genesis for those doubtless comfortable but rarely attractive shoes made for her is proving to be nowhere near as good as i thought. Regardless of the origin or the footwear, the toes poke through and i may be too dim to solve this or there may actually not be a solution, but if this cannot be resolved, then for me G2F is just another cul de sac.
shown is G2F with a material preset from V4 applied and wearing the Onyx outfit and Bubble hair for G1. The only item that fails to properly load are the boots. I have tried this with shoes for V4 also and the same thing happens. So $10 plus later its probably back to good old V4 for me
Unless of course someone has a solution
gobeithio which is hopefully in Welsh ( i hope )
Ah difficult
Shoes are always problemsome with Gensis I believe.
Of course with V4 you have 2 options, either to turn the feet off in the HE or to apply a utility pose to put the feet in the right position, if such a pose is supplied with the boots,
On this one I can't help, as I don't actually use Genesis. :red: ymddiheuriadau
Well i gave up and bowed to the inevitable march of progress, and bought some shoes for G2F, which actually were not expensive. Seems that this girls can wear heels, even if she might prefer not to. Anyway they look good, and so does she. Hope this image is not out of place in thread thats varied from materials, morphs, V4 to G2F, and a detour into Welsh along the way
Just a simple render with uber environment and one spot.
I don´t know anything about Welsh, but such thing is possible in my language too. (In)famous is the sentence "Strc prst skrz krk" (put your finger through your throat), which is a jawbreaker even to us native speakers. :) But in general, we rarely use sentencies that only consist of consonants. There are however many common (usualy short) words that have no vowels at all.
I'm glad things work out for you so far David *smile*
