Content disappeared!

Hello,

just opened daz and when I was loading a scene it started telling me things were missing....so I realized all content was gone!

I checked the directory manager and everything is ok

the strange thing is also that I have some content showing....in some letters of the content library but very very few

there is nothing to download with connect, I checked and I am logged in....

yesterday everything was fine!

thanks

When you work connected DS will download metadata updates automatically for all content you own. Those metadata are used by Smart Content and Products lists.

My guess is that the metadata update was much slower than usual for whatever reason, so DS didn't have the full list of your content and couldn't display it.

I think you are right, thank you!

    Today it's all right !

This happened to me last week. I had to uninstall and re-install Studio to fix it.

Thank you, I think I'll have to do that too...it seems it's not gettin ok by itself this time...

  • There is a known bug with Windows 10 that files disappear and reappear. Maybe it's related to that? It's very irritating!

I have windows 10 indeed! I was hoping to find it ok by itself like the first time but my content has only M4 and other 2 items!

I guess I really have to install daz again...

Reinstalling Studio will not fix content problems.  How did you install your content?  Fourth generation figures like Victoria 4 and Michael 4 cannot be installed with Connect.

Open the Content Library pane, if your content is in there then the problem is CMS and database related.

The problem is that when the content disappears I can't see it from that pane, then it appears some time later...

Please cite this!  Makes no sense that changing DAZ will influence Windows 10.  There is no Windows 10 bug that causes this.

Note that only the Poser Formats and DAZ Studio Formats sections of Content Library are independent of a working CMS — the other two sections, Products and Categories, do need the CMS. If you're used to always using Products or Categories, that's still "looking in Content Library", but if the CMS flakes out for any reason, you won't see any content.

You asked for citations, so here's a few.

    Windows 10 Loses Files

Windows 10 can lose files after an upgrade to Win 10 from an older version, here's help to find them:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12386/windows-10-find-lost-files-after-upgrade

There can be problems with Windows 10 updates, so here's how to delay them until they fix the bugs:
    https://www.pcmag.com/article/362284/how-to-delay-major-windows-10-updates
There have been several recent updates that lost files. If you do a Google search on lost files you will get a ton of references to this.

"A few users" lost files after the October 2018 Windows Update:
    https://www.pcmag.com/news/364270/microsoft-pauses-buggy-windows-10-update-thats-deleting-fil
Note: I was one of the 'few users' and it was very frustrating! I did get all my files back. However, I keep backups of all my important files. I don't use backup programs. I just copy the whole file by hand.

Yet another problem in a Windows 10 update:
    https://www.pcmag.com/news/370501/report-windows-10-update-makes-cortana-push-cpu-usage

How to find those missing files:

And, no, changing DAZ has no effect on Windows 10, but if DAZ uses Win 10's Windows Explorer, then problems in Windows 10 will also be in DAZ's directory listings.

Problems with disappearing files in Windows 10 are not common by any means. But I have been having them for years. I periodically have to reinstall ALL my 3rd Party Content because I'll look on one of my hard drives and there will be a lot of empty folders where content used to be. Luckily, I have backups on my backups most of the time and I can reinstall. It's not the particular hard drive because I have many and this problem is on all of them. I do scan for viruses often and do regular maintenance on the drives. I was a computer tech at GA Tech Library and learned good habits there, back in the DOS days.
