But now I have found your entry and it makes my curious. Have you done this in one render or are this 3 different render that you have put together in postwork?

Version I here. Added some empty magazines amungst the rounds , and a fresh one the shooter had quickly slapped in.
The one magazine is a nice little detail.
Band rehearsal
I realise that I need to do some work on the positioning of the microphone and drum sticks, but I thought I would submit this anyway as it is nearly mid month.
I wondered if the lighting was too harsh too.
lighting:
outside is a dusk-like mood - reflect that by letting warm orange sunshine coming through the window to give your characters a nice contour (not from behind but left or right)
turn off headlight source so they don't look like they are lost in a big empty space
camera shot angle could do with a slight tilt leaning toward the right
props:
get some loudspeakers, cables lying on the floor (basically all the gear a band needs)

Oh yeah. Mag dropping to the floor like that is cool. Lots of foreground if she needs to roll, or take cover.
Can you (meaning me) change tracer prop colors? In a game like Arma3, baddies might have 5th round as green tracer-- friendly = white tracers so just curious. Tried doing a guy with an M-4 knock-off and am learning 'action & adventure' is harder than it looks. posing them can be pita

Nice reflections in drum kit. Don't know what you're planning so can't really say much. If change aspect ratio, crop empty area to left, or you have something planned? Be interesting to see!

Version I here.
Changing the color of the tracers is simply a matter of going to the surface tab and changing the settings. The one I'm using is a pre Iray freebie from sharecg that I converted. It has 2 surfaces, an inner and an outer, I used a metalic shader on the inner surface to represent the round, and an emissive shader on the outer surface for the glow,(also lowered the opacance of the outer surface to near invisable so we have the glow, but it's not overpowering.) However as I've got things I'm using a node instance of the guard's tracer stream for the shadowrunner who's been firing, so it's not so simple to give them different colors as is. I'll have to load a new copy of the prop, and redo the work of getting them where they should be, (and let me tell you, that was a pain in the you know what to do so with both the parent prop and instance in each case.) but I'll think about it.
Thanks for your advice. I checked the drum poses and found that they only work with the full drum kit so I have adjusted my image to use the full drum kit and sorted out the pose for the drummer. I also added some speakers and a monitor which I found on sharecg.com. I have changed the colour of the lights to pale orange as suggested.

@Sueya - Great job so far. Nice improvements with seegsons' very helpful and specific feedback, but you were already off to a good start.
@dstuffle - Your image is looking much improved. I like this latest a lot.
Shinji - I think your improvements have added a lot to the image. The others are right. Nicely done.
@Tynkere - Hey there. Sure would love to see this continued. As for theatrics and how they really fought, it comes down to entertainment vs. pragmatics. Gladiators might well use theatrical moves because, unless every fight was honest and to the death, there were crowds to entertain. I think there's some debate over this, but it matters not. Jokes don't have to be true to be funny. Stories don't have to be true to entertain. We don't watch movies to see real blood or deaths. So what matters here is your vision as an artist and the skill with which you share it. A lot of people joke about Michael Bay, but I don't think he cares--and should he? Is a cartoonist any less of an artist than a photographer? Even Spongebob requires skill and talent to produce. So, you decide your style and vision and develop it. If you like gritty realism, go for it. If you like escapist fantasy, embrace it. You do you. I don't think you can go wrong as an artist if you do.

I am not a drummer so my suggestions on posing could be off. I would like to see the drumstick in the raised hand if possible. Maybe turn the Drummer's head slightly so he is looking more towards the Singer. He is looking a little disengaged from the scene looking off to the side. Or perhaps add the shadow of someone off camera he could be looking at?
All the extra props really help.

So, I incorporated some of the feedback I received. Of course there are things about it I think I'll need to fix. This was at 3% after 3 hours. Her eye is wandering again. Outside window area will be rendered later and composited. Might make changes to her outfit. Translucent paper is a great idea, but this thing is already a monster to render so I may have to forego it. Please tell me what you think. Feedback is always welcome; I value it even when I choose a different path. Thank you for taking time to look and comment if you do. If you don't, that's fine, too.
I wanted to post something but nothing I do right now has any sort of action to it. :(
@illysArt - There is action, but I think you tend to do a lot more quiet and subtle stuff. I love this image of yours. Maybe it isn't as over the top as what I'm doing, but there is action. I hope you'll find something to share because I think you'd bring a lot to the challenge. It's nice to have a variety of styles on display. I bet you could really do something good. I like the way your character interacts with that robotic dog. Maybe not quite a prop, or what they're looking for, but who knows? Hoping you'll still bring something.

I like the way you have concentrated the image to the action of the individuals. Your shooter's pose looks good to me ( but I will leave any critiquing of posing there to those that are more knowledgable ) and I like the flying casings.
A suggestion of the outside world beyond the window is probably all you need. Some grass or something.

Great improvement with the whole scene.
Her pose and position is nearly perfect. You can change her right arm position a little downwards, so that it points more more to the headshoted zombie.
The different color outside the window makes even without a scene a big different.
That is really a fine work for this month contest. :)
Fine entry. Is this a real gig, or just a session in the rehearsal room?
On a gig, you can try to apply other lights. One side yellow, the other red or something.
The pose of the singer is well done and I see the dancing crowd before my eyes.
Maybe some arms and heads in the foreground can even improve this imagination, but this are always only ideas who popped up in my head. I don't know if they working half as good as expected

@daybird - Thank you so much for the input. Makes me feel much better. I've been very concerned about my direction with this. I want to thank everyone who gave me feedback on it. I feel like it's so much better than it was, and that's due in large part to the wonderful insights of the people in this thread. You know who you are!
Now, about the arms. I struggled much with the posing. The left hand/arm/gun is actually aimed just above the headshot zombie's face, to account for recoil. The right hand/arm/gun is actually just above the creepy kid's face. I didn't have the heart to put a bullet in her. How goofy is that? Still, I'm not sure what to do... Right now, the bullet hasn't impacted anywhere visible. It's passed through the lot of the zombies without striking any of them. I thought about trying to put a bullet hole in the doorway trim or in the wall near the door, but in the end, I opted to leave it as is and leave the question to the audience about where the bullet went or ought to go. So, to ensure I had the guns accurately posed in terms of aim, I put a camera in between where the eyes would be of the target and aligned the gun to aim into the camera. With the headshot zombie, I chose a point just above the head, central-facing to the gun, where i imagined the eyes to be. Then I moved the hands, guns, and somewhat the arms slightly to compensate for the recoil effect. I just hate to kill creepy kid. Even though she's not real, something about pulling the trigger on a child just stops me in my tracks. I wonder, too, if our heroine/hero would pause as well, in spite of her hardened exterior/jaded outlook. What do you think? Where did the bullet go?
Anyone else who cares to chime in is welcome to give me feedback on this variant of the image. What are the obvious issues you see that maybe aren't as visible to me now that I've been staring at the same things for so long? How do you feel about the lady's outfit? What objections do you have to this pose and image? What would make it better?
Sometimes it is good to take a break for a couple of days. Work on something else or nothing at all and come back with fresh eyes.
