I know there's a thread on this topic, but I can't find it. Any way, I didn't like how my computer was acting and I did a system restore and now my Install manager is failing. I checked the settings and I can't see anything wrong with it. Here are snap shop what I got.

    Check DIM's log.

    1. Click on the Gear icon upper right
    2. Click on the Log button on the lower left
    3. Scroll down to the bottom of the log and there should be an indication what caused the failure.

I check and it showed that it couldn't write to the folder. I checked the folder and for some reason it was set to read only. I unchecked read only, but now it will be 30 minutes or more before I can check to see if my issue had been fixed. The folder is applying the attributes.

I've had an error where DIM is unable to extract the files into Runtime/Weblinks. I just deleted the Weblinks folder and DIM was able to extract the files eliminating the error message.

I think something else is wrong with it. I can't figure it out.

here's the error message I'm getting.

Installing product : Diner Food 4
WARNING: Could not set permissions on file: /GERALDPRUETT-PC/Users/Gerald Pruett/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library/InstallManagerFileRegister.ini
WARNING: Error opening save file "/GERALDPRUETT-PC/Users/Gerald Pruett/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library/Runtime/Geometries/B9999/B9Diner/B9DF4_ChiliBurger.obj.ztmp" : could not open file

Hum.. I didn't have any errors installing Diner Food 4 via DIM.
Sorry, I don't know what those error messages mean, I'm sure somebody else can assist.

I have so many external runtimes. I wouldn't mind installing over the top of them just to get the queue down to zero in my DIM and also so that I am sure I have the latest stuff from now on. However it is such a pain creating all those shortcuts that I probably will only need once, and about 10% of the time I accidentally think I have selected the shortcut after I make it. Is there a way to just navigate to the folder I want to install to for my selected items each time without needing to create a shortcut?
    Love esther

No the path needs set in the installation tab. You can put in a feature request to able to browse to a folder for each. You can always set up a dummy folder and install everything to there and move by hand to wherever you want. Dim will still notify you of updates.

The path had been set and it's failing. Look at the top of the thread.

we're talking about two slightly different things in this thread. I need a feature and the OP needs a fix.

    Gerald,

I have no idea if this is on point but I looked at my DIM installation settings and the difference between mine and yours is that mine is set to install to:

    C:/Users/etc...

while yours is set to install to:

    \\GERALDPRUETT-PC/Users/...etc.

It seemed from your error messages that the location starting with \\GERALDPRUETT... can't be found. Are you trying to go across a network to install your content? I assume this is your computer name, not the location of your Users folder which is [presumably] on the "C:" drive?

I'm just guessing, so I might have NO idea what I'm talking about here. lol. But I thought it was worth a try.

[edited to add one more thought]

On second reading, the error says it can't set the permission of the file. Have you tried running DIM as administrator?

Krew is close to the answer

Remove the references to the //GERALDPRUETT-PC/USERS... path from both the poser and daz studio formats.

Got it working again. Going through the c:\user... is the correct path.

    thanks for all the help
