Problem with Poser and BUMP maps

Admittedly, I'm using an older version of Poser for a project of mine (Poser 7) but I'm having a problem with bump maps.

In the Material room, in the preview window, they look fine but when the project is rendered the areas where bump maps are applied have ragged edges and are distorted.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

Should I be suing BMP instead of jpegs? Is it a size issue; (4096 x 4096)?

Any ideas?

Do you have the quality on your Firefly render pushed up to best quality?

Also make sure that "normals forward" is enabled.

No, I have it set on Default - I'm a Poser newbie. Good with DS but newbie at Poser.

Poser seems to have 'auto' and 'manual' settings. What are your recommendations?

I've tried to convert my Poser Pro 2014 render settings to Poser 7.

    For a fast draft render:
Check Cast Shadows (if this renders too slow, uncheck)

    Check Raytracing
    Raytrace bounces 1
    Irradiance caching 50

    Pixel samples 3
    Min shading rate 3.00

(Uncheck these if it renders too slow for a draft)
    Check Smooth polygons
    Check Use displacement maps

For a high quality (final) render:
    Check Raytracing
Raytrace bounces 1-4 (depending whether you have glass, water, or anything else that reflects/refracts)
    Irradiance caching 50

    Pixel samples 10
    Min shading rate 0.20

Check Smooth polygons (you may need to uncheck Smooth polygons on figure/prop properties if they "poof up")
    Check Use displacement maps

What product is this? If I have it, I can try rendering it too.

You could try just bringing the slider over to final and use the auto settings, to see what difference that makes.

I built it myself so, no, you don't have it - not that I wouldn't mind you beta-testing it if you can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. Let me know.

Thanks for the advise above. I'll give it a try.
