Camera windowframe thingy in Render viewport changed shape. oO

Okay, I was looking around at some of my collected products I'd gotten and not used yet, thinking "I might ought to use these particular things in a render soon..."

I vaguely remember clicking on one of the assets in My LIttle Place, and then a couple hours later went to render a scene, and discovered that the little camera-frame-size-and-shape frame thingy that helpfully appears in my Render panel Viewport had changed to some wide, shallow rectrangular thingy.  Before that, this outline usually was roughly the size and shape of my whole viewport area.  Any idea how to make that frame thingy go back to being more square?  Its causing an inconvenience of having to zoom out a bit to fit an object into that space when I save out a scene or a scene-subset to avoid the top and bottom of the image from being chopped off in the saved out thumbnail image.  oO

You can change the aspect ratio under General, first item on the menu at the left of your image. You can also set the pixel dimensions here too which will render your image larger or smaller. There area also quite a few presets included. What has happened is that one of the items you loaded has changed the settings, something I dislike as I prefer to set things up on my own.

  • Okay, changed the aspect ratio hight from 9 to 14, and that doohickie now shows as filling the whole viewport again.

BTW, anyone else but me experiencing DS login issues tonight?  I had to set Offline to get to that adjuster, after waiting through several minutes of mouse whirly-pointer.  oO  The websitewasn't loading correctly earlier, too.

@nomad-ads_8ecd56922e "that doohickie now shows as filling the whole viewport again."

That doohicky is the aspect ratio frame. It shows the portion of your Viewport that will be in the render.

  • On a semi-related note.... I later loaded back up a scene I'd saved out while that aspect ratio frame thingy was the slender rectangle.... and DS went back to having the slender rectangle. Naturally I promptly adjusted hight back to 14 again.  After some more adjustments to that scene (it was a WIP) I saved it back out.  I THINK DS has remained having the aspect ratio frame remain the way I'm used to it again, though.  Fortunately I tihnk that was the only scene I'd saved out while that frame was so out of whack, so that's probably fixed it for good.... but now at least I know how to switch it back again if it changes later.  :)

By default render settings are saved with and loaded from scene files (when you Open, rather than Merge) - including the render dimensions.
