3Delight vr. Iray

1) What is the exact difference between a 3Delight texture versus an Iray one?
2) If I go to Photoshop, what do I have to do to make an Iray texture?
3) Am I assuming correctly that the FilterForge textures are 3Delight? If so, I would like (if possible) to convert them to Iray using the answer that you give on question 2.
Thanks

Textures are image files, the Iray and 3delight options are materials. Materials use textures, and iray (in the Iray Uber Base shader) has more options for control maps etc. than most 3Delight shaders, but it isn't the maps themselves that are tied to a aprticular render engine.
Thanks for replying. I guess I used the wrong word - I should have asked about Materials. Anyway, any ideas on how to make iRay materials? I am still confused.
You need to select the model and surface(s) you want to apply iray settings to, then apply an Iray shader - usually the iray Uber base but there are also some sahders for specific materials included with DS. The simplest way to do this iss elect with the Surface Selection tool, then in the presets tab of the Surfaces pane go to Shader Presets>Iray and use the iray u=Uber Base, one of the sample shaders, or another preset. Once there there are usually a lot of options to modify.
Thank you for replying again. I understand the steps that you outlined. But what I want to know is: If I make an object in ZBrush and texture/colorize it there (and then export the textures for modifying them in Photoshop), how do I make the texture/materials Iray versions? For example, you can purchase Iray versions for 3Delight textured people and objects. I would like to know how to make textures/materials that will render properly in Iray. Is the answer simple? If not, is there a tutorial somewhere that I can follow?
The textures are the same.
