After installing 4.6 I have had lots and lots of missing items in the smart content and the content manager. I have 3 locations where to put files, in the public documents folder my daz 3d library, in the user folder also my daz 3d library and the my library in the my documents. Where are the files supposed to go? In all instances I have used, there are missing items. But the public/my documents seems to have only a few items while when using the other locations I have tons of missing items. PLease help

I take it you installed some stuff with DIM and didn't change the install loacation?

Do you want all your content in the same place?

If that is a yes then copy and paste the other two and merge them to the one you want. Then if all went wellthen delete the other two or move them to a safe place just in case.

Then make sure the location is mapped in Daz Studio http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/11176/#160953

There is no one place content SHOULD go. The only resriction is that it shouldn't be in Program Files. I have all my content on a second portable USB Hard Drive.

Reinstalling won't have purged the Content Management Service database. One option is to go to Content DB Maintenance (from the Content Library option menu - right-click on the pane's tab, or click the menu button in the top corner), check Remove Orphaned File References, and click Acept. Another, more drastic, is to go to the same dialogue and check Reset Database, Accept, then Re-Import Metadata, Accept.

Not everyone knows how to use a computer so don't be sorry.

Make sure Daz Studio is closed down.

Disclaimer: I have never done this but in theory it should work.

Go to the first folder and select everything inside the My Library Folder. You can do this by selecting the first, hold down Shift and click on the last, that will select them all, the right click and choose Copy.

Then go to the content folder you want to keep and right click on the My Library folder and Paste. You will probably get a message asking if you want to merge so click yes to everything. Repeat for the other folder.

Then once that is complete make sure the location is properly mapped (refer to the link I gave).

    Then time to Reset metadata

In the SMART CONTENT PANE click on the Option Box located at the top corner of the Pane. refer to image 1
Click on the Content DB maintainence and "reset metadata"

Well, I have a question- my content is not installing in 4.6. I had downloaded a bunch of products and I do the manual install- have done it for hundreds of products so not new at this. But here's the steps, just in case I am doing something wrong- let's do the zips-

download. click to open- extract files, click on content folder (or whatever is there- in other words, no CONTENT folders ever get dragged and dropped over to My Library. I say yes to Merge, but no to copy and move (I know its middle option)

I have the studio CLOSED and nothing happens- assets do not get read. In the content management section, what do I need to do? Some of these things don't have metadata so doing that wouldn't be the answer, right? I'm really sick and tired of this.

The best way I have found of installing Zipped content is simple

If using Windows click on the zipped file to open, DON'T EXTRACT
Copy content inside the Content Folder
Paste content in to My Library and say yes to Merging.
    Done.

Thanks Szark, I'll try it. The other way should work though- that's the method in the help section, if I recall. But whatever WORKS! And it's faster.

Yeah I know but doing it that method can lead to all sorts of problems like inbedded folders hence why I do it that way.

Something is seriously wrong with my 4.6 version. It wont load anything. I just did it Szarks way, I did it my way, nothing is loading.
EDIT- I had to go into content management and reimport the meta data.

Which begs the question- what the heck do you do when content isn't loading and there's no meta data?

  • SzarkSzark Posts: 10,634

When you mean loading are you talking about Smart Content Pane or don't they show up in the Content Library Pane at all. The Content Library pane it a representation of your hard drive, in fact you can delete Folders in the Content Library and they delete from your hard drive, that is how much the two are linked. So if the content got installed correctly it WILL show up in the content library pane. Smart Content is just another level and a different way of seeing your content and is directly reliant on Metadata. No Metadata, use the Content Library Pane.

Now if they are truly not showing in the Content Library Pane and not tucked away is some silly named folder then the chances are the content isn't installed properly, a corrupted DL or the content paths are screwed up in Daz Studio.

I did find one of them using the Content Library (Search was useless as usual) but it did not show up under the Products alphabetical list. I had to guess to find it. This doesn't cut it. There was NO read me to help me locate it. Why can't they get the darned SEARCH feature working? Neither do- in Smart Content or Content Library.

So your method worked on one, not sure about the other. Thanks for you help Szark! *smile*

BTW- what is an orphaned file?

Second question- if I have duplicates of something, how do I remove one of them? (I have two images side by side of the same product. And no, one is not materials.)

Did you look for the readme here http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/start ?

Orphaned files are leftovers. I am not 100% sure exactly but my way of thinking is that there is left over metadata for some reason and no mapped path to where those files were located. Hopefully someone with more understanding of this side of things can help. I don't use Smart Content as I split all my content up in to over 30 content folders. So for me the Content Library is so easy for me with all Buildings in one, all Characters in another etc etc.

Duplicates if they a true duplicates as in both sets are in DUF format and not one set .duf and the other .daz then you have the tools in Daz Studio to remove Orphaned Files and Duplicates.

In the Smart Content or Content Library Panes Options Box there is a command called Content DB Maintenance

Yep, used the sku number, before I posted. No dice, no read me.
Yep, have been using that- (the maintenance menu) and that's where I saw the orphaned files thing. Didn't know what it did!

Szark, take a look at this post please, from my art studio. Getting an error message on a product that's in one of the promo stores. Thoughts?

    Thanks!
I got the scene loaded and it wasn't a problem (it appears that is a no shutters file) but I'd just not had error messages pop up before! I am using Windows 7 so it's good to know that is a known bug.

ok so i installed everything manually and with 4.5 everything worked fine.
I just upgraded to 4.6 and now all my products are not linked anymore or something.
everything is from daz and nothing was installed with dim
I have tried all of the maintenance things like was suggested above, but nothing is working.
my smart content is empty, and so is my content manager products listing, but the re-import meta data sees all of my products.

How do I get my products and smart content back?

From your screenshot, it looks to me like the CMS (Content Management Service) is not running.

You need to go to the Start > All Programs menu in Windows, and look for DAZ 3D, and restart the CMS from there. That should give you back your Smart Content and Products.

There are missing triangles at Products and Categories, that usually only happens when CMS has stopped running.

The Other Import Formats may be missing the triangle because it has nothing in it anyway, mine has a little triangle there as well., but it is Products and Categories that points to CMS. It may not always be the case, but it usually is in my experience anyway. We'll find out shortly.

ok, new problem, since upgrading to 4.6,
not sure if it fits here, but so be it...

some of my products are missing their morphs,
I uploaded 2 pics one of hair with its morphs
and one of a shirt that is missing a lot of morphs.
both the shaping pane and the parameters pane are missing the morphs.
If I load a shirt that I shaped all ready it loads with only the morphs that I previously shaped.

That shirt is not the only product I have not showing any morphs, some only show 1 now where before they had 5.

Some Morphs will show when another Bone is selected in the Scene Pain ie; Hip, Abdomen or even have a bone called Shirt. Try clicking on each bones down and see what pops up in the parameters pane.

Not every product has its Morphs in the Shaping or Posing Pane but should show up in the Parameters Pane.

Here's the same shirt loaded from a previously shaped save.
it lists the layering and fixes category and 3 morphs in it, although there should be more.
this item and the others that are now having problems all worked fine just before I upgraded to 4.6
