PoserCF Files

SO ... Hi, obviously new to this. I am not doing to bad learning all this new stuff, and have so far managed to figure things out. I am using Daz 4.6 Pro with Poser Pro 2014 along with the download manager. I just assumed the download manager would magically know where to put everything. My fist problem occured when trying to install the DSON Importer. Just would not install but I finally figured out I had to add Poser to the applications menu. I have just begun to download my library into the install manager and have noticed that many of them come with two files ... one of them being the PoserCF. Soooooo ... here is my question! Should I be installing the PoserCF file into the Daz Library or to some other place in my Poser directory. Just so you know, never installed any of this before so I am not even sure what folder in Poser I would use should they be going there. That being said I would not mind some REALLY detailed ... long winded ... and informative feedback on this. I am a quick learner so hopefully I will not be too much of a bother to teach. Thanks for all the help ahead of time!

Both the core and the companion files need to go into a folder you have selected as a library in Poser - either one you are already using or a new folder to keep the Genesis stuff together, You can set the destination folders in DIM by going to preferences (gear icon at top-right) and looking in the Installation tab, clicking the + to add a new folder; to pick the actual folder used, click Show details at bottom-right of the main DIM interface and select from the list. If you are using a new folder, in Poser click the folder with a + icon at top-right of the Library pane and select the folder you installed the content to..

Thank you for the help. I am very eager to learn this and do not want to have to go back track to fix things. So ust going to recap to make sure I have this right as I actually have not created any folders myself.

The programs did do this as they were installed. As I am understanding, your saying the basic file goes to the Daz Library, the PoserCF file goes to the Poser Library

In My Documents I have folders made by Daz and by Smith Micro. Daz has two folders one is for Daz4.6, Carrara 8 Pro, and Hexigon. The other is for Bryce 7 Pro and the Install Manager.

Smith Micro (Poser 2014) has only one folder.

I am going to use the example of the Alruna download. It has two files one marked Alruna, the other Alruna PoserCF.

Insatall manager has automatically set up the destination of the Alruna file to go to the Daz folder in My Documents that contains the Daz 4.6 files (I am assuming this by the way)

In the details in the "Ready to install tab" the top two say "Recommended Daz studio/Poser Content Folder"
Content installed to Reads "C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library"

So my assumption is that when I install the basic Alruna file it will go to the Daz folder holding my DAZ 4.6 content (aka: My Library)
--- And kind of off topic here -- I was assuming that products for Bryce, Carrara, and Hexigon would also magically go to the proper folders, but now I am thinking I have to make paths for all of them?

For the Alruna PoserCF file I am going to go into settings and create an install path for these files -- I believe in my reading to understand this all that somewhere it said to stop at the main Folder and not to go to the Runtime folder, but I could be wrong, so which below would be the right path to establish.

    C:/Users/Public/Documents/Poser Pro 2014 Content ---- or ---- . C:/Users/Public/Documents/Poser Pro 2014 Content/Runtime
--- with the off topic question create the same type of paths only using the specific program folder right?

Now if indeed I do have all this right, I have one other small problem. Before it hit my feeble little brain that some files should need to go somewhere else, I did install some of the downloads with both files going to the Daz library.

If the above info is correct to fix this I am assuming I will need to uninstall all the PoserCF files from the Daz library through DIM.

If that is correct and I do that do they reappear in ready to install, so I can send them to the proper folder, or do I need to download again to obtain the CF files.

I know they are stored once downloaded In the My Documents Daz folder that holds the Bryce software. (I really have tried to do my homework so I would not be too much of a pain in the tuccus)

So if they do not return to the "ready to install tab" I assume I will need to go into the Install Manager Folder and delete the files already there to be able to re-download them.

So which of the above will happen? Return to ready to install -- or -- delete files and re-download?

Sorry to be such a pain, but I am kind of trying to self teach myself here and just want to get it right. I really do appreaciate all the help given.

You can install everything to the same folder as long as you tell Poser and DAZ Studio which folder it is - or you can change the install locations to the Poser content folder (C:/Users/Public/Documents/Poser Pro 2014 Content as you thought) for the companion files and C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library for the DS files, but then you need to use the folder with a + icon in the Poser library to add C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library to Poser as a library folder. And you will need DAZ Studio, if I understand you are using it, to be pointed to that folder too (but if you do have DS and are using the content in DS then presumably that's done).

Okay I think I understand what your telling me, and again thank you for the help.

I plan to use both Daz and Poser. I have only just really started and so I have opened each program once to register them and have not yet really begun to play with anything. My hope was to get the files installed so I could begin my adventure into 3D creation. I will open poser and try to find the +folder.

I was however looking around in the folders while waiting for someone to help out, and noticed that I have duplicate folders for Daz in the "My Documents" section of the Documents Library that are empty. Is this where I store things that I create in the future with Daz and Poser?

There's a mis-match in default folder between DAZ Studio (C:\Users\You\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library) and the install manager (C:/Users/Public/Documents/My DAZ 3D Library). But those are just defaults - you can use one, both , or none of them as you wish. As long as you tell DS and Poser and the Install Manager where the files are/should go, and as long as you don't put them in a protected area like the Program Files folder or another user's documents folder, then all should work.
